So about a week and a half ago, I bid on a Mr. Hat puppet on eBay. I bought it using BUY IT NOW, paid with PayPal the very next minute, and then went about the rest of my life as normal.
So a week and a half goes by, and no item. I log on to eBay and see I have like three messages from the seller. So I won the auction on 7/26. I have messages on 7/28 and 7/29 asking where the payment is. Then I have one on 7/30 saying that he's cancelling the auction because I didn't pay. Meanwhile, my bank records show that PayPal debited my account on 7/27, meaning he'd been paid. So then I have a message on 8/1 saying that he saw that he'd been paid and he was recrediting me money.
So today I see all this shit from this fucking loser and I contact him and ask him why the fuck he's such a stupid fucking losert, only I ask him a lot nicer than that because I'm still hoping to do business with him. So then he has the fucking balls to tell me that if I still want the item, I have to pay his fucking relisting fee. Fuck that.
So now I don't have the item, and I can't even leave him negative feedback, or else he'll retaliate in kind. I fucking hate people.

This is exactly the sort of antics that are the reason I prefer not to use Ebay. I do my business with faceless corporate institutes, thank you.
I mean, I've only bought a couple things offa Ebay, and they both went just fine, BUT THE FEAR IS THERE!

I've bought about 50 things off eBay over the years and never had any real problems, but yeah, this sort of thing happens and it's really annoying.
I prefer to buy stuff off Amazon, and if I could have found this there, I would have bought it. With Amazon, the worst that can happen is that you end up waiting like 2-3 weeks to get your item, and Amazon has been working really hard over the last year to make sure that sort of thing doesn't happen and to get rid of the public perception that it does.

Amazon isn't bad, other than having horrible shipping rates and times.
I have no problems with ebay and use it quite frequently. 99% of my purchases hae been trouble free, and honest. I guess I have been lucky in that regard.
If you look up my account "Knyte6426" you will see that way back I have 1 negitive feedback, and that was because of a simular issue to what Syd discussed. I bought a 2nd Edition Battletech Box Set from a gentleman, who didn't use paypal, and only took money orders. So, I won the auction, and sent a money order the same day. About a week later the package came and everything was fine. I left him positive feedback, and waiting for him to do the same. About two weeks later I get an e-mail from him asking where the Money Order is. I replied that I sent it, and will investigate with my bank. (Who I wisely purchased the money order from.) They checked thier records and saw that the money had been cashed in the same zip code as the address I mailed it too. I had them give me a hardcopy of the record. I e-mailed the gentleman the next day and told him what I found and offered to fax the bank record to him. He replied later that night, that perhaps his wife had cashed it and he didn't realize it. He apologized and that was the last I heard from him.
So problem solved, so I had thought. The next day he gave me negitive feedback and called me a thief.
Fucking asshole.
Since that time, I have never, and will never bid on an auction that doesn't accept paypal, no matter how bad I want the item. And, haven't had any problems since.
But, to this day, I still wonder why he mailed me the package if he never received my money, as he claimed?

The only issues I've had with eBay, aside from the long shipping time from US to Canada, is when I was selling stuff... both times I listed my iPod Video with both the bidding & Buy it now options, I had scammers "buy" my item. They were separate individuals who both saw it fit to email me after "winning" and ask me for my bank account number... had I been a novice user, I may have fallen for it. I replied on both occasions giving instructions on how to pay using paypal, which was my ONLY listed payment option. Of course, being as both incidents involved total scammers, I never got a reply, and both times the winners account was canceled within 48 hours of winning. The only thing eBay was able to do for me was credit the re-listing fee...
In the end, I sold the iPod to a co-worker who wanted to get her daughter one for xmas. Happily, I profited $250 on an iPod that was given to me as an employee promotion!

I really hate it when eBay goes bad. My Dad has an account and he bought a record about a month ago and still hasn't gotten it. And once he was selling a pair of my Mom's shoes and the lady he sent them to said she never got them. It all ended up with him having to give her negative feedback because she was really sketchy. Like, she had already paid him but wanted a refund later on because she didn;t get them. And then when she saw the negativ e feedback she apologized telling him it was all a big misunderstanding and tried to get him to change it.

Again, Amazon Prime is the best thing since Al Gore, Jonathan, and Syd Lexia invented the internet.

I have absolutely no complaints for Amazon... they made sure that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows got delivered to me by 8am release day! (which was surprisingly on a Saturday)
