So over here in BC, there's this little band called Nickelback that rules the airwaves. They got their start with Vancouver radio station the FOX, and when they started, they actually rocked pretty hard. Then they went the way of Metallica and realized that ballads sell. Now they're this country-wannabe, sappy, pop band. They're super-popular here, and pretty popular throughout Canada, but how bout in the States? How popular are any Canadian bands down in the US?

Nickelback suuuuuuuuucks.
And yeah, they get decent radio play down here. I liked "Leader of Men", but aside from that, they're pretty awful.

Yeah, I never cared for NickelBack. They got decent radio time when they came out w/their single "this is how you remind me." (I think thats what the song is called.)
At any rate, I dont listen to the radio anymore so I dont know if they still show up or not.

I assume they're popular in the staes seeing as they hold the record for the most often played song on the radio with "How you remind me". I agree that their ballads are formulaic and crappy, but if you want to hear their good singles, listen to Leader of men, Never again, and Animals.
And while I think they suck as a radio band, as a live band they're definitely worth seeing. The highlight of the Nickelback concert I saw this summer was when they played Cowboys from Hell while the opening band fired T-shirt guns off into the crowd. They also use a lot of pyro.

Nickleback is horrid, in my opinion. I like their Pantera tribute "Side of a Bullet", but that's it.

I've been anticipating that all day...
Nickelback actually kinda rocked until How You Remind Me, then they turned into this pop-ballad, proto-country band. They're as unoriginal and boring as any other band today, and just as cocky too.

Does anybody have that youtube where they blend two nickelback songs together, one in the left and one in the right channel and they match perfectly? Fucking lame ass group.

I think Nickelback bites ass. What sucks is that even though the radio station doesn't overplay "Remind Me", most of my friends are Nickelback fans. Our radio stations out here suck ass, though. The only good one is 98.9 The Rock, and half the time they're playing either mainstream rap, or hippie music (which makes no goddamn sense, in my opinion).

Even so, I like music based on lyrics, style, etc... do their songs necessarily have to sound drastically different? I can't remember the last time I thought to myself that a RHCP song was "so creative", but you don't hear anyone complaining about them! (sorry Valdronius, but it's true)

And if you'll notice, the critics and fans alike have panned RHCP's stuff ever since Californication. A lot of people like the fact that their favorite bands don't drastically change their sound. They just don't want the songs to sound exactly the same, top to bottom. Nickelback is the kind of band, much like latter RHCP, Creed, and Mariah Carey post-divorce, that falls into this category. Who wants to hear "one song" over 16 tracks?
You sound like you're taking the criticism personally and you shouldn't. Most people on the forum don't like Nickelback; that's just the way it is. Continuing to try to convince everyone who hates Nickelback that they're a great band, much like your quite personal take on the iPod and how everyone who hates it just doesn't "get it" and is obviously not as well-informed as you, only hurts your argument as makes you seem narrow-minded.
Other people besides you have done research, had personal experiences, and have come to a different conclusion than you. Let it be.

I've hated Nickelback from the first time I heard them. Also, shallow songs with drop-D/drop-Db tunings while using power chords in typical progressions get on my nerves after 1.34 seconds. Granted, I haven't heard a lot of their stuff, but if what I have heard is any indication, it's pointing toward the Seventh Circle of Hell.
