This may have been previously mentioned, but having seen it last night, I figured I'd put out my two cents...

This movie was average at best... I don't want to ruin anything for anybody (though that's hard considering the rather one-dimensional plot), but let's just say it's gory.

Best part of my movie-going experience last night was seeing a trailer/teaser for a remake of the Omen, coming out on June 6, 2006 (6/6/06, derr). No talking, just a creepy ass kid on a swing. Enough to get me to go see it.

Anyway, did anyone else see the Hills Have Eyes?

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I kinda thought about seeing it, but I haven't seen the original yet. I figure I should see the Wes Craven version first.

Plus, they didn't even give Michael Berryman a cameo. What the hell?

I don't know how I feel about a remake of The Omen. The original one was great... I feel like they made load up the remake with annoying CGI special effects.

You know, I just realized that Final Destination totally ripped off The Omen with the photograph thing.

I have no intention of seeing Hills until DVD unless I get a phone call from cooler friends who are going to go see it.

You know, I just watched the remake and then the original, and the new version was a little more disturbing. Wes Craven's original is a pretty good movie, but its a 70s exploitation film, and really feels like it. The new one wasn't as good but was way gorier.

And that is the word of spoilsport.

Y'know.. the original HHE, I'm sorry to say, is a film that's still on my "must get around to watching someday" list. I saw the remake last week and... eh. Much like the remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", I thought it tried really hard to have that gritty, low-fi feel of the original. The originals looked like that by necessity and not so much by choice... to pump in a ton of money to recreate the effect seems disingenuous to me.

I personally think the whole remake trend needs to stop.

Unless we get inventive like "Dawn of the Dead". We need more remakes like that and "The Thing" instead of TCM and HHE

You do raise a good point. I actually wasn't that blown away by the DOTD remake, but Carpenter's version of The Thing was fantastic. I'm just worried because of how many remakes/"reimaginings" are currently in production....

A sample:

The Omen, The Wolf Man, Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Evil Dead (no clear answer on this.. originally it was a straight "remake", but now it looks like it's going to be more of a "set in the universe of..." kind of thing), Friday the 13th (now they're saying they want to retell the basic events of Ft13th 2, 3, and god knows what else, basically covering Jasons first kills and acquisition of the hockey mask). And there are plenty of others.

They're remaking Creature from the Black Lagoon? Jeez, that was a weak story even in the original....

Oh, and on topic, I did see The Hills Have Eyes, thought it was pretty good as far as horror movies these days go, never saw the original.

I've never seen the original one. The remake was kinda letdown.
It was fueled to be extremely gory and stuff like that. But I was kinda bored
watching deformed people molesting teenager, mother etc. and then getting HC revenge from guy who was 5 min. ago scared of guns. Yeeeee....

Deeper and more sinister movie is clockwork orange.

I'd rather burn out, than fade away
