A little short, so this might just be an excerpt.

A weird mish-mash with the techno. It also sounds like they're attempting to give it a rap edge even though none of the lyrics lend themselves to it. The middle part naming the robots really reminded me of the MK song.

Not the Trevor Rabin awesomeness I was hoping for, but good for what the kids "like" I guess.

So I just saw it. I really loved it! ^_^ It was like an 80s movie, which was all I could ask for.

Basically, it's a B movie done A. Really, really A. It'll win the visual effects Oscar for sure.

Man, I love those robots. Bumblebee will be your favorite robot by the end. And Optimus Prime... So awesome. Same to Megatron. But be warned, this is not a movie starring the Transformers; the film's all about the humans. But there's still plenty of good Transformers only scenes. Cool

Oh, and John Turturro deserves a shout out.

EDIT: There were also a lot of parallels to Die Hard 4 Shocked

Saw it. Meh.

Megan Fox, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, and Jon Voight were all awesome.

Shia LeBoeuf was meh.

Anthony Anderson was annoying as hell and should never be hired for anything.

My main complaints would be:

1. Most of the Transformers don't get nearly enough face time, especially the Decepticons.
2. During the robot-on-robot battle scenes, it's near impossible to tell which guys are the Autobots and which guys are the Decepticons, aside from Prime and Bumblebee, because they're all analogous silvery pieces of shit.
3. The main character's last name, Witwicky, wasn't quite gay enough for my tastes.
4. The Autobots are played mainly for comic relief... and they're not that funny.
5. The boombox Decepticon looks more like T-X endoskeleton than a fucking Transformer.
6. Devastator was a tank? A FUCKING TANK!? And he appeared side by side with Bonecrusher!?

There's probably more...

Oh yeah! Bumblebee having to talk through radio clips was unnecessary and stupid.

I disagree with that point. I thought that was neat. Razz

Wow.

Not to be a buzzkill for those who enjoyed it, but I rank this film as one of the three or four worst I've ever seen. Like, I think I enjoyed "Alien Vs Predator" more and I openly hate the film with all my being.

I went into it hoping against hope that Michael Bay would make a believer out of me. I hate the man. He's never made a film I liked. But he went ahead and gave an interview to "Wired" where he basically said "it's just fucking robots and I don't care if people feel strongly about them".

Fanboyish stuff that irked me:

1) Lips on the Transformers??
2) The blandness of the designs. The Autobots were slightly better in this regard. The Decepticons all looked really drab and similar.
3) Bumblebee should be a BUG. Putting one right next to him in the used car lot is a great way of saying "Ha-ha, fuck you" to everyone who would care about this.

Actual film quality stuff that irked me:

Like Syd said, the Transformers were basically backgrounded until the overly-long and wearisome final battle. We spend a whole lot of time with a horny loser, the inexplicably hot girl who for some reason pays attention to him, and a fat hacker who plays DDR and eats donuts. Oh yeah... and a bunch of soldiers.

The humor just wasn't funny. It was cheesy and detracted from the overall experience. Stuff like Transformers peeing on people was just lamelamelame and unnecessary.

The camera shook so damn much during the big fights that I couldn't really enjoy the sight of two killer robots going whole hog on each other.

I know the Autobots are "hiding" from Sam's parents, but where the hell were all the neighbors? Wouldn't SOMEONE have noticed a bunch of 30 foot tall talking machines bounding around the yard next door?

The film way overstayed its welcome. I never, ever look at my watch during films and I go see some slow-as-molasses shit sometimes (I'm a film geek.. it just happens). But my ass hurt from sitting and I was getting very antsy.

Giant robots bashing the shit out of stuff. This shouldn't be hard to keep entertaining. Somehow Bay made it boring.

We get a voiceover from Optimus Prime right at the start telling us about the robot war and the AllSpark. We then get the same spiel about the damn cube twice more as the Autobots explain it to Sam and then Sam explains it to the government and "Sector 7" guys. It's not like this was an insanely intricate plot to have to follow. All the repetition was just irksome.

The general flow of the movie was just... dead. I never felt like we were going anywhere. The dramatic tension was totally inert and I never felt like the world was at stake.

And, this is not something I would normally complain about, but Michael Bay takes this way beyond the point of excess. Why does every girl in his movies look like a fucking porn star? I'm supposed to believe that Megan Fox's character was a high school student? As everyone else got more ragged and beat up, her sweat just seemed to make her look like an oiled up centerfold with her hits bursting out of her shirt. And that female hacker spent the whole film looking ready for her FHM shoot. I like some decent T&A as much as anyone, but come on already. Mary Elizabeth Winstead looked just as hot in either "Live Free or Die Hard" or "Final Destination 3", for example, and she was at least believable as a normal girl.

Theater notes:

These things aren't the film's fault, but they definitely added to my pissy mood. Showcase Cinemas in Revere can suck my ass.

1) I timed it out so that I could see the Digital Projection of the film. Of course, the two stoned dudes next to me who reeked of pot were a bit distracting, especially when they went "shiiiiiit" after every explosion and "Shiiiiit, that's tight!" after every lame joke.

2) For some reason they played us the trailer for the terribly unfunny-looking "Superbad" first thing, played four more trailers, then showed us the same damn "Superbad" one again in its entirety.

Since I should leave this off on a somewhat positive note, let me say that a) it was great hearing Peter Cullen reprising his role as Optimus and I actually like Shia LaBoeuf. He didn't have much to work with, script wise, but he held his head above water the whole time and didn't seem put off by essentially acting against a bunch of CG robots the whole time. I look forward to seeing what he'll do in "Indiana Jones 4".

So yeah, for the folks who did like it, I'm honestly glad. I don't want people to have a shitty time when they pay to go to the movies. But I dunno... this one just completely flopped for me.

Aside from the Superbad hate, I agree with pretty much everything you said. Superbad, along with Balls of Fury, are the two non-Simpsons comedies that I'm most excited about right now.

I can totally see how and why fans are pissed at the film. My own interest in Transformers is light compared to others. For once a movie's changes had absolutely no bearing on my opinion whatsoever. I was more interested in the Bay nods to his other films than the Transformers references.

Again, for action and "good vs. evil" I think the film delivered. Sure the end fight felt a little Power Rangers-y... wait, is that a bad thing? And any film resembling "Masters of the Universe" meets my acclaim (Gwildor 4life, beetchs). But I think the hate on Anthony Anderson is a bit overdone, might as well get pissed Kevin Smith was the Warlock IMO. As for the love story, I've seen far too many movies to care about that now; in fact, I'm with Bay that the only real relationship in the film is between a boy and his car. I'll also side with Bay on any aesthetics as well. "Transformers" was perhaps the most professional looking movie of the year, even showing more range and discipline than either Raimi or Wiseman. For a cult series, I think it was a fine transition to the masses, keeping the overall spirit of the series alive and at least giving the old fans something recognizable and interesting.

Was my childhood raped? Not at all. Heck, I think Elias of Clerks II would've been satisfied.

Oh, and no one else will mention it but Steve Jablonsky actually delivered a Bay sounding score unlike his "Island" outing. That was one of my concerns before going into the film and I was very pleased I got something that sound like Zimmer or Rabin. Again, only I would care about such things Razz

I already know my complaints of the film will be (or have been) addressed, so I won't bother with those.

*By "professional" I meant union, studio filmmaking.

Why? Just why? It's like half the cast of "Knocked Up" and they're starting to run together...

I'll keep it simple. I liked the movie. Enough to admit I shed a tear of joy or two.

And now for someone else's viewpoint:

I'm going to admit this here and now: I friggin' stood up and shouted when Optimus Prime delivers the closing speech and I can't wait till I'm able to rip it and use it as the "shut down" sound on my computer.

I actually do agree with you on that. When they just let Optimus be Optimus, it was awesome.

And, Syd, I know I was being a bit harsh on "Superbad". It was mainly the victim of my mood. Very Happy "Balls of Fury" looks like it could be for me, though.

I'm wondering if they were setting it up for a potential sequel.

The Decepticons end up in the ocean, which is where they were originally based in the cartoon.

I'm also wondering if Devastator will be changed to Brawl for the DVD release, as Hasbro had ordered them to change it but it was "too late". I'd be interested to know how it could have been too late... it was a one line fix, and it was a SUBTITLE.

Yeah, LeBoeuf has been hired on for two sequels.

Also, anybody see the "Optimus Prime tries to order a Whopper" BK commercial? I chuckled.

On May 30, 2007, Dreamworks greenlit two sequels to Transformers,[101] and Shia LaBeouf,[102] Megan Fox[103] and Peter Cullen[39] signed on to return. Producer Tom DeSanto has envisioned a storyline introducing the Dinobots, the Constructicons, and Soundwave.[15] Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman may not return, as "Star Trek... is taking up kind of all of our time."[26] Michael Bay has not signed on, "trying to keep some leverage for the negotiations",[39] but already has ideas, including an aircraft carrier character. My thoughts:

-The battles were too fast and the character designs too busy to tell what the fuck was going on.

-Characters die like bitches.

-Too much humor, stupid humor.

Overall; meh.

Then again, I saw the original Transformers movie. I thought that was horrible, yet hilarious. And don't get all nostalgic and tell me it was a great piece of cinema, watch it again. The show was great, but the movie is an ADD-fest.

The cartoon movie is definitely an ADD-fest. It's sloppy and confusing, especially when you haven't seen the TV show in at least 15 years.

The problem with Transformers: The Movie is that it was geared towards introducing a new toyline instead of telling a movie. The problem with Michael Bay's Tranformers is has absolutely no respect for the source material, a fact it constantly reminds you of with its pathetic attempts at humor.

I haven't seen the new Transformers movie. I do love the old one, but for the humor value it has. I mean, who can forget Spike Witwicky's line.

A friend's review:

""Transformers" (2007) Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and Rachael Taylor. Directed: Michael Bay.

There are people out there who are beautiful, exciting, and even a little on the dangerous side. These people are well proportioned have the whitest of white teeth and various body parts that taste like ice cream. Yet, as God (or a good doctor) has blessed them with being so physically appealing often times something else is missing.

Enter "Transformers" a movie that is every bit a summer action film. It is filled to the brim with incredible visuals, lots of action, and a little bit of humor. This movie like many of the films directed by Michael Bay is neat to look at. Just don't try to think about it.

No seriously, don't think about it at all ever. Don't wonder why it is that when LaBeouf turns the corner it goes from day to night or whatever happened to characters X or Y. Don't think about why Megatron says, "You've failed me again Starscream," when if anybody had failed from the start it was Megatron. Don't think about the number of plot points brought up just to "flesh out characters," that are more details that should have been left in the outlines, tv-show or comic. And especially, don't feel bad that if you aren't familiar with the comic, toys, multiple tv series etc. if you can't remember which transformer is which. Don't think about any of that plus numerous other flaws and problems including the film stock.

I realize that that is a large amount to overcome. But hey, we over came it in "Independence Day" right? I mean, certainly those aliens should have had at least one anti-virus program. It was a fun film too as long as we didn't think about it.

That being said now that I do think about it I wonder what James Cameron or someone like that would have done with this film rather than Michael Bay. The world will never know. NO NO DON'T THINK ABOUT IT!

So, like I said, don't think about this film when you watch it. Park your brain and your butt and just watch it. It's everything you want in a brainless summer movie and then some. It's the error filled Michael Bay film complete with crude humor and and bigger than life special effects. Enjoy it for what it is and you should have fun.

** out of ****"
