Today's poll: What's your all-time favorite science fiction first-person shooter series?

Doom
Half-Life
Metroid Prime
Quake
Serious Sam
Star Wars: Jedi Knight
Timesplitters
Unreal

Halo isn't even an option. Ouch.

Maybe they thought it might be unfair. I know all of the other games listed are good, but they may have figured putting halo on the list was like say, I don't know, putting Britney Spears on a list of people and asking who is the craziest. No matter who you put on that list, I have a feeling that Ms. Spears would run away with that one. Just a thought.

When they did favorite RPG series, they included Final Fantasy, so I doubt it.

Halo's inclusion on the list wouldn't have impacted it in any significant way. GameFAQs polling base is very pro-Nintendo, so it comes as no surprise that Metroid Prime is winning. If Halo was on the list, MP would probably be winning by a bigger margin because some people would have voted for it out of spite.

Of course, Doom should be winning.

Yeah, you're right. I actually hadn't really noticed the swing in Nintendo's favor, but now that I think about it..... And as far as your opinion on Doom, I'm right along with you on that one.

Well, besides blowing people the fuck up over the internet or with a group of friends, Halo's not that great. The story is bland, the gameplay is nothing we haven't seen before, the only thing is really has going for it is the visual style.

Oh, here we go...

"The story sucks!"
"The story is great if you read the books!"
"I shouldn't have to read a book to like a video game!"
"Nintendo fanboy cocksucker!"
"Ignorant mindless game freak!"
etc etc etc...

Please don't make this a Halo/Anti-Halo thread.

I friggin' love those Kyle Katarn games, but seriously "Jedi Knight" is the worst of the series. Evil

Tebor, your sig = awesomeness.

Also, I actually don't see why Halo is not on the list. Doesn't really make any sense to me.

Dude, I think Halo is awesome! And I have read some of the books, but it's still nothing new: super-soldiers killing aliens with hierarchal societies, super weapons of unimaginable power, parasitic aliens. What makes it cool is the personal style all those elements have visually. Plus, it's fun as hell to blow the fuck out of people over the internet in that game, I laugh incredibly hard whenever someone (even myself) goes flying through the air from some ridiculous explosion-fest.

Perfect Dark is also missing. As, since there are two games, it counts as a "Series".

F.E.A.R. is another one that should be on the list, even though there is currently only one game. (Unless you count F.E.A.R. Multiplayer, which is in fact, a second stand-alone product.)

I don't even think some of those games should be compared to each other, but I would have picked Metroid prime regardless, if it wasn't there maybe Halo, I dunno. Doom maybe too. I have been really wanting to play some big Halo CTF games lately, but of course noone else wants to.

Is Star Wars: Jedi Knight even first person?? I dunno, Metroid is way different than any of those games, wierd.

agreed, half-life, however is a close second... but really, you can't beat the game that might as well have made the FPS genre.... but that's not saying wolfenstien 3D wasn't fun... just that doom made first-person shooters popular.

Wolfenstein was pretty awesome when it first came out. I think the reason Doom is remembered far more fondly is because it has more depth to it. Discounting bosses, there are like 7 different enemies in Wolf3D:

Brown Nazis
Blue Nazis
White Nazis
Dogs
Zombies
Pac-Man Ghosts

All right, so there's only six... five if you wanna be really picky.

but both really had something in common: enemies you don't particularly need to justify killing. whether they are nazis or demons from hell, it doesn't matter... it's fun... and heck, i've unlocked wolfenstien on Return To Castle Wolfenstien on the xbox.. i can play it whenever the hell i want... and i don't really recall the pac-man ghosts...

The Pac-Man ghosts only appear in one level... the secret level in Episode 3: Die Fuhrer Die.

It's kind of funny at first, but they're all programmed to go right for you, so after a few minutes you're running from one flashing four color ghost instead of four ghosts.
