So after years of resisting, I caved in and got a smart phone back in January... mostly due to peer pressure. The problem is that I can't find any good uses for it and I'm really regretting buying it.
I tried ebooks but the screen is too small. I was excited for NES/SNES/Sega emulators but the games are terrible on a touch screen. I don't do any social media. Typing & web browsing sucks with a touch screen.
The only thing I've used it for is getting a Heroclix app and a weather app which seems like a big waste of an expensive phone and data plan
I need some suggestions about how to better utilize my smart phone. Are there some good, in-depth games that play well on a smart phone? Maybe something similar to Final Fantasy Tactics? What do you guys do with your smart phones?
EDIT: It's an Android btw

I have an android smartphone. I play mostly RPGs on my emulators because of the controls. Other than that, I have a flashlight app that comes in handy every now and then. I also use a built in app that came with my phone for writing notes in case anything ever comes to mind when I am out and about. What I use the phone most for is to take photos of random stuff. Birds and other wildlife, cool cars I see or funny stuff. and sneaky shots of women's asses in public. It's nice to have the internet and mobile browsing gets easier with practice.

What emulator do you use and what games work well? A good rpg or strategy game that works with a touch screen is my #1 priority.

Like a lot of people I mainly just use it for internet and email. I also have been using the youtube app often when I'm killing time waiting and can't access a bigger screen.
I also use it a lot to check sports scores.
Don't do too much gaming with it cuz of the smallness of the screen and the touch controls. While I have a few games, angry birds is the only one I've played extensively. I have a droid, but the new RBI baseball game isn't compatible with my pantech phone, so I downloaded it on my wife's iphone. While it's fun, the touch controls aren't as good as an actual controller would be.

Right now I just have a SNES emulator. I think it's Snes9x EX+. It's the free version. It plays everything well, as far as I can tell and based on what little I read about it.

I play Quiz-Games and Galaga on a NES emulator (it works ok with Touch-Screen controls). I also have the flash-light-app but i never really needed it until now.

i use my phone quite a bit.
i check my email on there all the time, both personal & work.
i use social media a lot.
i play a lot of smart phone games that i'll get thru the play store or even thru humble bundle promotions.
i check amazon/ebay/craigslist for stuff to buy.
i use wikipedia every now & then.
i use the dictionary app when im second guessing myself.
obviously texting is used quite a bit.
in terms of games, i been playing JETPACK JOYRIDE quite a bit as well as PLANTS V ZOMBIES 2. they're both free. i also picked up the SIMPSONS TAPPED OUT game and thats basically a simpsons version of farmville. so its pretty worthless. theres this puzzle game called THE ROOM i got thru a humble bundle and thats also pretty fun, even if there is very limited replay value once you beat the game.
i also use it to check sports scores & stories when im not near a tv or comp.
i have this app called BUYCOTT that helps me make sure im not buying shit im trying to boycott.
i use pandora on it if im out & about.
i use the chase app to send money to my brother or sister since we all have chase.
i also use fitocracy to help me when im working out.
so i use my phone quite a bit.

This is an app that let's you keep track all of the public places you've pooped. Either expand your territory and poop at all of the places OR use this if you're not a fan of public pooping and would like to mark safe, quiet public bathrooms to poop in. I use it for the latter reason.
Also, "Run Pee" is an app that tells you the best possible time to go pee during a movie. It even gives you a synopsis of the moments you miss in the film.

Woodzy seems to have the two most important apps necessary. I didn't even know I needed them until he told us about them, and now I can't imagine life without them.

I downloaded a Sega emulator and I've been playing Shining Force which works quite well with a touchscreen. Coincidentally, I play mostly while pooping so I'll have to download that pooping app too.

I use the wiki app a lot too, as well as imdb. I swear, I can't watch a new movie or show now without pausing to see where I recognize an actor from. So annoying. I have the dictionary app, but don't use it nearly enough. Keep forgetting about it even though it's on my home screen.
I text people instead of calling them now. I hate talking on the phone, so I love being able to just shoot somebody a quick text.

i also hate talking on the phone. i work at a call center so im on the phone all day long, so talking on my own phone is a fucking chore.
in terms of emulators, i use NESoid for NES of course, SNESoid for SNES, and GENSoid for Genesis. if i do play on the emulators, i only play RPG's as the touch screen works great on turn based games, but any other type of game is just garbage on a touch screen.

This app(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller)makes gaming/emulators 1000x more enjoyable. It's the only paid app that I've ever purchased and I would highly recommend it if you have a PS3 controller and an android smart phone.

Had that app not required rooting your phone, I would've purchased it in a heartbeat. However, I'm not so sure I wanna do that with my phone, especially since it's still new.
But anyway, smartphones are really great things to have. I was also skeptical about making the switch myself the first time but once you realize what you can do with all the really cool apps out there, it becomes a whole new world and you'll never wanna go back to using a regular cell.
I enjoy having a pocket device that has emulators, a flashlight, a camera, radio stations, reminder alarms, a translator, access to e-mail and serves as a convenient organizer. I also really like the fact that I can use it as a tethering device: whenever I'm traveling with my laptop and can't connect to any networks, I can use my phone to connect to the internet.
If there's anything I would recommend downloading, give Opera a try. It's a decent mobile web browser that's better than the generic browser Android comes with. I also recommend GasBuddy which tells you the prices of the nearest gas stations.
Going back to emulators, I already have good ones for NES, Game Boy and Genesis but I can never find an SNES emulator that allows you to press more than 3 buttons at once (for instance, I can't do running jumps very well in Super Mario World). Does anyone know an SNES emulator that gets around that problem?

I use my phone a lot, but not for a lot of things.
Mostly for listening to music and as a personal hotspot for my laptop. Sometimes I browse the web, watch YouTube or a stream.
I sometimes even play games on it during my commutes due to there not being any cell reception where the train I take passes through.
If I purchase an iControlPad or something to that effect I might install RetroArch for emulation.

I still haven't made the jump to smart phones. I rock the same model of flip phone I've had since 2006, except now it only costs ten dollars, which is nice, because they break about every three years.
I feel like if I had the ability to mess around on the internet whenever I wanted, I would, and I don't want to do that, so I have denied myself the ability to have 24/7 access.

You're a better man than I Lesh. I used to get so much more reading done on the train before I got a smart phone. Such a waste of time for me.

I am not even able to use internet on my smartphone. It's cheaper and like you people said before you don't start to get the habit of wasting your time by checking your facebook page every 5 seconds.

I've been making some progress the last few weeks, but the last few workdays I regressed from being so tired from the heavy workload from some deadlines. Hopefully I can catch up on sleep in the next few days then get back on the horse.
