Oh man, I played Super Spike V'Ball all the time with my cousin when we were little kids. Haven't thought about that game in forever. Thanks for the good memories.

I remember renting Kid Icarus as a kid in the 80s. It was neat, but I just never played it after that.
My Mario experience post-NES is pretty much limited to mostly the kart games, as well as Tennis & Golf. It seems like after the greatness of SMB3, I was all Mario'd out. Really weird of me, but I guess I got more into sports games after that instead of platformers. Bought Super Mario Bros. Wii for my wife's b-day last year, but only played it with her once. Co-op is frustrating.

THQ really made some neat, fun, and quirky games for the NES. Just the body style alone in those games is good for a laugh. Besides the obvious River City Ransom, playing the World Cup game on NES and the original Game Boy was fun as hell with the slide tackling system.

Too many to list. I'll just say I'm very thankful for emulation.

Cattivo, I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but you've really got to give Super Mario World and Mario 64 a test drive.

Indeed. Maybe I can get them off the Wii virtual console if they're available there.

I don't know how well Mario 64 has held-up. It was amazing at the time, but it was very much a "You had to be there" sort of game. IMHO, Sunshine has held up far better.
Super Mario World though is still fantastic.
Both SM64 and SMW are on the Virtual Console, unless they've been pulled.

Well I'll keep this to NES. Like someone mentioned earlier I too fell prey to buying games that stemmed from IP's I already knew about. That only seemed to work out on TMNT and Ducktails.
Crystalis
Journey to Silius
Dragon Fighter
Shatterhand
8eyes
Battle of Olympus

Mario 64 is entirely skippable.

Crystalis is awesome, you'll have to try that. It's moderately challenging. Battle of Olympus is also good, although that one is hard as hell. It plays like Zelda II but harder.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent and say that Mario 64 is not entirely skippable. I still play through once every two years or so. It's far more exploratory in nature than the later 3D Mario games, which is fun. Also, the graphics have aged better than probably any other N64 game.

I have to agree with those sentiments. Mario 64 is definitely a classic worth playing at least once if you never have before.

Terranigma is a fantastic game. It's a shame it was never released in North America, although I used to own a PAL copy and am grateful for it. If you have not yet played Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, I would hold off on Terranigma as it is a the last game in a loosely connected trilogy with those other two being the previous games. All excellent games developed by Quintet and published by Enix. I wish they would revive some of the old Enix games.

I live in europe so i naturally played it. I even remember the TV-commercials. Completed it multiple times and it's still a great and unique gaming experience no other game can give you.

The only Metroid games I've ever played are Super Metroid and the first Metroid Prime. I should probably make time to play through the NES original. Can anybody comment if the gameboy Metroid II is worth playing> I just got a Super Gameboy and I imagine that one might be fun to blow up on the big screen and add custom colors to.

It's very similar to the NES one i think. It's just classic Metroid with Gameboy graphics. I remember it also being very hard and i actually never completed it but i had my fair share of fun with it.

Yeah I grew up playing Soulblazer and Illusion of Gaia, probably hundreds of times. I'm glad I finally got me a copy of Terranigma, I'm finding it pretty awesome so far.
