Which version does everyone have/which version is considered to be better (if either)? I think I'm going to wait and get it for Christmas, otherwise I will just be getting money because I haven't asked for anything.

I figured they were essentially the same, but read somewhere else that one was apparently better for whatever reason but I don't remember which one. I think it was just a random person not a review or anything though, can't find where I read it.

I got Y. If you're worried about exclusives then look here:

The only real exclusives are the Mega Evolutions. Anything else can be obtained via the GTS and/or Wonder Trading.
And here are the exclusive Mega Stones in each game.

 Pokemon Y:
 Charizardite Y
 Mewtwonite Y
 Heracronite
 Houndoominite
 Aggronite

 Pokemon X:
 Charizardite X
 Mewtwonite X
 Pinsirite
 Manectite
 Tyranitarite

Mega Charizard Y is considered better than the X one. People are more split on Mega Mewtwo. Dunno about the others.

Charizard X looks really cool, but Y is better.
Charizard Y has more resistances than Charizard X, including being immune to ground. Also, Drought is a SIGNIFICANTLY better ability. Solar Beam hits in ONE turn with it, and Fire Blast always hits with it.

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me if I want all 18 varieties of Vivillon:

Are we sure this list is 100% accurate? I saw a different one that said Virgina had Meadow.

So far, I've seen reports of some discrepencies with some US patterns. That being said, I guess it was a good idea to get online with the game today. Once a passerby saw my sign of "Want Vivillon" and I showed him which ones I had, he traded me a Marine for a Heracross. Then, a friend I'd added through a group traded me a Garden for a female Braixen with Magician (as well as a shiny Amoongus for a Dry Skin Helioptile because...shiny!).

On a different subject, it seems that the website for the Pokemon Bank app is up now. What intrigues me the most is this little detail:

| wrote: |
| When you use Pokémon Bank, you will be able to receive a special Pokémon: Celebi! To receive it, use the Pokémon Link function in the Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game that you used to deposit your Pokémon in Pokémon Bank. Only one special Pokémon is available per copy of Pokémon Bank. Even if you store Pokémon from multiple games, you can get only one Celebi! |
It goes on to show that once installed, "Pokemon Link" becomes a clickable option in the menu, placed below Mystery Gift and Live Competition.

So the Bank and Transporter stuff is out in Japan now and there're already a few details worth mentioning:
* The first time you sign into it, it explains the 30 day trial pass and then asks you to subscribe
 * You can only transfer your first Box 1 on each go.
 * Each time you transfer over a box, you get credited either 100 PokeMiles or 10 BP.
 * The app itself is 218 blocks/27.25 MB

Also, this should be obvious but expect the servers to be damn slow for the first few days its available thanks to stress from everyone using it at once.

Aaand now PokeBank's been pulled from the Japanese eShop, with a possible delay for other regions because people quickly discovered how to hack around and generate totally impossible configurations for monsters.

Does the update fix your game if you've saved in that spot that causes a the game breaking glitch? Just wondering because I got Pokemon Y for christmas, but with the eshop being down I don't know if I want to risk playing it and forgetting if the update doesn't fix your game.

Yeah, I'm not insane enough to try getting 18 different shiny versions to complement the regular ones.

Me either. The rare patterns are hard enough to come by. If I saw a shiny of rare pattern on GTS and the asking price was something reasonable, I'd go for it, but no way I'm getting the whole set.
Only thing more insane than that would be trying to get a shiny set of Unowns.
