Why does everyone always say GTA has to be in the United States... there are plenty of other places it could be set.
There was a game called The Getaway, while fun, I do not enjoy the driving rules and regulations. While playing these games I make it a point to signal, drive the speed limit and stop at all traffic lights. One thing I will not do is drive on the left side of the road.

the trailer is out
so, it is set in LA, which is cool. hopefully they keep the same play style from GTA: SA on this one. the guy talking... i couldnt quite tell if it was tommy vercetti (which would explain the V on the logo) or if it was clyde from GTA III.
at about 1:05 you see a black dude running from cops, which some people have speculated it might be CJ and he might have a part in the game. at any rate, there you have it

Gotta admit, the trailer got me kinda pumped. I like the look of all that rural and mountainous area to explore.
Yeah, It looks pretty good from the little bit we see there.
I'll certainly have my eye on it.

Looks good so far, but it is one of those wait and see games for me. I like that we are going back to the LA area though. It would be nice to get another set of good characters like the ones in SA and that is going to be the major selling point for me. I might have to wait to get some player reviews to find that out though because it is hard to tell if the critic reviews are legit or paid off.

My first thought was meh to LA, but I'm seeing a lot that I like here. The country, fun things like planes and maybe even blimps will be back. Now if we can get those RPG elements from SA again, I'll be happy.

Rock*tar press release
Quote:
Following up on the release of the game's debut trailer yesterday, Rockstar has issued a Grand Theft Auto V press release and provided some scraps of information about the project.
A lot of what was suggested in the trailer has been confirmed -- the game is set in a Los Angeles-inspired city that will, like in San Andreas, be called Los Santos. It's described as a "re-imagined, present-day Southern California" that includes some of L.A.'s surroundings, namely the "surrounding hills, countryside and beaches."
Not that you'd necessarily expect the feature to be dropped, but GTA V will bring back online multiplayer. Whether it'll come in the same form as GTA IV's it didn't say; we just know the game will head into a "bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer."
Each of the last two numbered entries have marked a big shift for the series; III took the game into a third-person 3D world and IV took the series in a more serious direction. Judging purely by the trailer, it didn't look as if things were changing drastically, but it'll take more than a single trailer to be able to definitively say things one way or the other. At least for the purposes of today's press release, Rockstar is suggesting another big change is in store for the franchise.
"Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans."
We've gotten no indication of when the game will be out. Another Rockstar release, Max Payne 3, is set to come out in March and publisher Take-Two would likely want to put some room in between the two. In either April or May of the last three years Rockstar has had a big release -- GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire -- and it's very possible GTA V will fall in line with that pattern once again. There is a theory that a hint about the release date was hidden in the trailer; a for sale sign shows the numbers "2405" which has been interpreted as a May 24 release date. It seems like a good guess, only that day is a Thursday, not a Tuesday, making it an unlikely release date.
I'll edit in a embedded link later when it's available on YouTube.
My thoughts, it looks amazing. A complete return to the San Andreas style gameplay that every wanted and was never fucking delivered in IV. I play games for fun and a lengthy game play experience, and I'm certain this will deliver both.

I read the wiki page, I don't think any of those characters are CJ or Verceti. It looks intersting, I'll give it a shot when it comes out, will probably redbox it before I decide to buy.

According to the Game Informer cover story that just came out, no previous GTA protagonists will be making an appearance in GTA5. The game will star three new protagonists, who you can switch between on the fly (a la Resident Evil 0).
Apparently you can switch between them any time you want; I'm wondering how they're going to handle being able to literally switch between them at any point, considering you could have one character jump off a skyscraper or something and then switch to another. Maybe he'd be in front of the hospital when you switched back?

All I ever want from this franchise is fun. Vice City delivered, San Andreas delievered, GTA IV did not. This looks like a return to form and I'm incredibly excited to just have a blast. Games have gotten very serious the last few years and I just wanna be let loose in a goofy satire filled play land every once in a while.

Holy hell that was amazing! I would almost be tempted into buying a PS3 or 360 just for this game. Well done video, too.

The three-characters-at-once mechanic looks really annoying to me. I just hope there are no friendship-upkeep meters in this game. ...And that they fix the damn driving...and tinfoil cars that explode after a few bumps.
The scenery looks fantastic, though.
I just hope there are multiple ways to achieve goals, and that the computer doesn't blatantly cheat or become invincible like previous games. But it probably will because Rockstar is telling a story and you have to play it exactly the way they want it played, no exceptions.

This game looks cool. I wish that Rockstar would make a new GTA featuring all the old protagonists that interacted with each other.

This game is a lot of fun, and seems to have fixed most of the annoying problems that IV had. I keep getting sidetracked goofing off and forgetting to even bother with missions!

That's definitely the sign of a good GTA game. As long as driving is fun again, I would be tempted to get this eventually. That's if it ever gets ported to the PC, where the franchise came to be anyway.

I don't get all the hate for GTA IV. That game was fun.

GTA V is really big and looks awesome but maybe I would get bored. I do not like rural areas and the game seem to have a lot. But is easily a really good gam, the best of the year, probably.

Only real complaint I have, you make money with the stock market by doing assassination missions, Kill target A while investing in company B, and watch the money roll in.
HOWEVER, there are two stock market websites in the game world, one that is tied to the single player world regardless of online capability you may or may not have at home, and another that is tied in to Rockstar's online gamer service thingamajig, which without online access you cannot use.
Seems like 90% of the "stock market assassination" missions are on the ONLINE ONLY site, meaning you make less money if you are an offline gamer like me.
Still, as long as you don't go completely bananas customizing cars and buying every stupid t-shirt you should be OK, but good luck buying the million dollar movie theaters and clubs.
Other than that, I have no other complaints! It's fun, it handles well, it looks good, the map is insanely big, the cars drive alright, the planes and helicopters do what you'd expect them to, the AI is halfway smart at times (had cops climb roofs to find me ducking behind AC units etc when they did not have eyesight on me), it's a pretty sweet game.
To me it feels like San Andreas II, only thing missing is the Jetpack, but I haven't beaten it yet so maybe it's in there too.
Oh, how come the dogs are almost always rottweilers, only ever seen one other style dog and I wasn't even sure if I actually did, but that's more of a HUH than a complaint.

A couple of my friends have beaten the game, you get a pretty hefty payday after the last heist, you should still be able to afford some of the more expensive things after it even without using the stock market.
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I only have internet connectivity for xbox at my parents house, not at the place I'm staying for school. I'm pretty sure I've been able to use the online stock market offline.

There's two stock websites in game, BAWSQ which is online only, and LCN which is available regardless of if you are online or not.
Most of the assassination missions involve companies that are under BAWSAQ, on;y a few re LCN, ergo if you are offline not ass much opportunity to rake in extra dough.

Ya, I did a couple assasinations and invested in companies on BAWSAQ, I definitely did one or two while I was online, but could have sworn I did one assasination and successfully made money on the BAWSAQ when I was offline. I'll have to check again, definitely won't do heists/investing on BAWSAQ offline if that's the case.
