A lot of the games on that list are questionable.

At least 40% of the games on that list are shit.

I saw Command and Conquer and then Starcraft 64. Anyone who even puts those on a Top 100 list is the definition of the word moron. Those games were utter garbage. Ridiculously impossible to control compared to their hugely superior PC counterparts and they ran slow as hell. I bought Starcraft 64 when I was picking up old games a few years ago and played it for a few minutes before realizing just how terrible it was. RTS games just don't work on consoles to begin with and certainly not the 64 which didn't really have the power for one or the ability to play multiplayer online.

Holy shit, you and me must be the only ones that liked that game. Owned it, but all my friends hated it, and wanted to play Mario Kart instead. It wasn't the greatest game in the world, but I found it fun.

Definitely an underrated racing game. I never beat it, but I liked the different race styles it offered. Mario Kart is just a simple racing game, like most, but SoutPark Rally added plots to each race, and it kept it fun.

Even C&C for PSone was kinda bad. I never played the N64 version but i imagine it even worse than the PSone, wich is beyond awful.

After seeing these lists it seems like Shadows of the Empire is a must, if it's still 10 bucks at one of the shops, I'll have to grab it.

You know, every time someone posts a top 100 list, everyone says that it's shit and bitches about the games or the order, as if you expect a perfect list. It's not just this list, it's every list that's not Syd's. There's no such thing as a perfect list. Hell, even Syd's lists had some questionable choices. I mean, his NES list has fucking Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure, one of the shittiest games on the NES and it also has The 3 Stooges and Jaws while not even including great games like TMNT 3 and Little Samson. Likewise, his SNES list has The Death And Return Of Superman and Jurassic Park but leaves out amazing SNES games like Wario's Woods, Axelay, and Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse. Plus, Street Fighter II appears on the list 3 times. While they are the best console specific top 100 lists I've ever seen, they still have their flaws, flaws that no one seems to care about, but when another website does a top 100 list, everyone on here likes to point out their flaws and call them terrible lists. How does that make any sense? It doesn't

Okay, my rant is over. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I don't expect the order on a list to be perfect, but I do expect to agree with the majority of the games on there. This one, I do not.

It's also very hard to agree with any list that puts Conker at #1. It's like this list was written in 2002 by someone who was 14 in 2002. OMG GAIS, SWEARING! BEST GAME EVARRRRR!

What's my age again?

Anyway, agreed. Conker is not even close to the best n64 game.

You can't let yourself get super mad when people don't like a list you like. That list you linked IS just a flat out bad list. It lists inferior ports, far too many generic racing games, and games that are just BAD. It was obviously made to fill out a Top 100 list, and it shouldn't even have been attempted. A Top 25 list would have worked, MAYBE a Top 50 but that is realllllly pushing it.

Exactly, gave some variety by having those different types of races. A fun change of pace.

Regarding Conker, I rented that game when it came out and didn't like it at all. The gameplay seemed stupid to me, and the crude humor was done just for the sake of it and wasn't funny at all. Like any adult swim fan, I love my crude humor, but Conker's didn't seem well done to me. For comparison, I was probably 21 when I played it.

Conker had its moments. The movie/game homages were pretty good. The fact that it wasn't 100% uncensored, and the scatological humor were both major downsides.

I'm 21 now and play it now, also played it a bit when I was younger on Xbox (aaparently it was more censored or something but I don't remember) so maybe it's partly just the memories of enjoying it back then when I hadn't played a ton of platformers. Ya the humour is silly, but I find it quirky and it just doesn't make the game worse for me like it seems to for others. I guess it depends on the person, The Mighty Poo seems to be liked by a lot of people. I hadn't played (and honestly still havn't played much of) things like OOT or Majora's Mask, so other than Mario 64, I didn't have a ton of reference points for 3D adventure/platforming games.

I did find it odd that they censored fuck but left most other words in.

Not one mention of Sin & Punishment or Custom Robo? I can only imagine they will get into my top 5 when I get around to buying a Gameshark to play em via freeloader.

I shouldn't have to mention why most lists are retarded, right (esp. top 100 ones)? I'll come up with my favorite games (Smash64 would be top of the list) when I finish going through the FPSes, Majora's Mask, Sin & Punishment, etc.

I tried playing the 3D Goemon game again and it was awful. I really enjoyed the first time I played and beat it -- those boss fights were fantastic. I am hyped to play the side-scroller one again (got stuck on that stupid escape the rising water level).

Super Mario 64 should be on my list as no other 3D platformer is as good (not Rayman 2, Tonk, Glover, Goemon, Gex, etc, etc.).

As for FPS games, I assume Perfect Dark would be at the top spot but I would have to replay the Turoks, GoldenEye, etc.

Resident Evil 2 should win for survival-horror. (I want to play Nightmare Creatures now).

Super Smash Bros. 64 is the best fighting game on the system.

I'd say F-Zero X is the coolest racing game I've played on the system. Not sure if it's the best, as in better than Mario Kart 64's multi-player. Way better than that bullshit Extreme-G though. It's better than Snowboard Kids 1. Not sure about SK2.

On-Rails Shooter would be StarFox 64 vs Sin & Punishment.

In terms of pure pleasure this is what I estimate my future list would look like:

1. Super Smash Bros. 64
2. Sin & Punishment
3. Super Mario 64
4. F-Zero X
5. Perfect Dark

In ranking pure pleasure I feel that fighting games and racing games have a huge advantage of providing more intense action instantly (constant high stimulus) than a game where you walk around and explore like Majora's Mask. Super Mario 64 is essentially being viewed as a racing game here fyi.

1. Starfox 64- The greatest space sim shooter ever.
2. Banjo-Tooie- Super Mario 64's ideals perfected
3. Rogue Squadron- The game I was waiting for ever since I first discovered Star Wars
4. Goldeneye- Syd said it all.
5. Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask- I would have just picked the latter, but I remember playing the former for the first time in years and it was better than I remember it.

There are a lot of what if's in life Donny. What if I hit you really hard in the face, knocked yo shit to the back of yo skull? What if I....had you girl gargle my nuts? The fact remains, you are a fuckin mutant.

No shit. I don't think anything has quite lived up to Tie Fighter when it comes to Star Wars flight sims. X-Wing Alliance came close, though. X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was cool but really only for the multiplayer, then that got old.

1. Ocarina of Time. The modern hype-backlash is stupid. This game changed my worldview.

2. Perfect Dark. For three years, my cousin and I used to play this game from nine PM to one AM three nights a week every week. We would create the must ridiculous multiplayer games that we could think of with what maybe the most pleasantly customizable multiplayer mode ever. And the campaign was awesome.

3. Super Mario 64. The game that proved platformers and true 3D could exist as one. The graphics have aged remarkably well in comparison to other games of the era. The open-ended, exploratory nature of the levels gave everything a sense of the magical.

4. Star Fox 64. I still have no idea how you can fit so much pure fun into so small a cartridge.

5&6, Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart 64. It pains me too much to place one above the other, so they're tied for the fifth and sixth place spots. Mario Kart has better driving controls, a higher density of well-designed tracks, better items, and a better multiplayer. Diddy Kong Racing has an incredible campaign with replay value, more tracks, multiple vehicle shenanigans, and slightly more polished graphics.

7. OgreBattle 64. Fantastic branching story, fun unit customization, and enough touch of the old-school JRPG magic that I almost didn't begrudge my friends with PlayStations for the exodus of Final Fantasy. Also,

8. Super Smash Bros. The one that started it all. An incredibly innovative new take on the fighting game genre.

9. Gauntlet Legends. I don't know how many nights I spent with three friends, battling my way through Sumner's Tower to fight the evil demon Skorne, but the answer is far too many. The perfect game for four guys with no plans on a Friday night to blow through while their lady friends are having a lady's night. In college, this usually entailed two six packs, two dozen doughnuts, and a Moravian Sugar Cake. I'm feeling so happily nostalgic, I might call up my usual Gauntlet friends next week.

10. F Zero X. My favorite of all the F Zeroes. GX had some wussy techno/electrocrap soundtrack. This is a game where members of the lethal space future participate in lethal space death races across lethal space death worlds throughout the lethal future Milky Way. Also, the drivers include a skeleton, a god of death, and an honorless ronin space future samurai. The soundtrack needs to be metal. And F Zero delivered awesomely MIDIfied heavy metal in spades. When you're video game seems like it should come from the pages of the magazine Heavy Metal, you don't give that shit to Moby or whatever new bald asshole du jour is wearing a mouse helmet and ruining our society's ideas of what the grim space future listens to.

I once rented Smash 64, which fortuitously had all four hidden characters unlocked. I went through the full roster from Luigi to Jigglypuff, then never played it again, nor ever its sequels. That might change soon, however.

Smash 64 is still pretty fun, though Melee is undeniably the superior option.

I love San Francisco Rush 2 and Rush 2049, but I can't say they're top ten material. The crazy stunt tracks are pretty fun. The battle mode in 2049 was interesting, I was only ever able to play it with one friend at a time but a four player session had potential to be phenomenal.

If friends are available, Mario Kart 64. If I'm alone, Diddy Kong Racing.

I like some of the tracks in GX/AX, but this is said having never played any of the F-Zero games.

I still like Smash, but feel Melee is far more polished. The guys on my floor in res LOVED Smash and hated Melee. Maybe it depends what you grew up with. I mean I myself love Smash and some arguably not great games like Road Rash 64, but never found any interest in the arguably better made Wrestling games. They always seemed pretty crappy to me despite the critical success and fan enjoyment a bunch of them had.

I played Smash 64 first. Things I disliked about it:

Tiny roster with inclusions (Ness, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Luigi) that I had no interest in playing as.

Tiny stages that were easy to accidentally fall off.

The guy whose house we played it at insisted on playing with Stock instead Time. Fuck Stock.

Melee fixed both my first complaints in a big way. Better roster, better level design. And being the main guy in the group with a Gamecube fixed the second complaint. My house, my rules. No stock ever. 10 minute time limit.

"Wait... you hated Captain Falcon, Syd!?"

I hated a character who, at the time, only existed in game manuals? I didn't give the shit about the storylines for a SNES game and an N64 game that made no effort whatsoever to make me care about said storylines in-game? No, no I did not.
