Twisted Pictures, the production company behind the Saw films, has joined forces with RKO Pictures to produce remakes of four RKO classics.
According to Variety, the oldies getting the remake treatment include Robert Wise's 1945 directing effort The Body Snatcher (which starred genre icons Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff); 1943's I Walked With a Zombie; and Bedlam, a 1946 chiller that starred Karloff. The trade says the fourth project from the RKO library hasn't been selected yet.
The companies are said to be currently trying to lure writers and directors to the projects, which will reportedly be budgeted in the $10 million to $20 million range. There is no distributor set yet.
"We've thought a long time about how to update these classic titles to make them commercial," Twisted's Mark Burg said. "If these films go well, we hope it leads to more."

I think that's good news, but the latest "hype" (that I hope blows over) is that R rated horror films are on their way out for glorifying violence too much. This is the jumped to conclusion for the underperformance of Grindhouse and Hostel II. Saw IV's director even said this could be the last Saw film...
Hopefully, these announced horror remakes are good, but more than that, I hope they're financially successful.
