In celebration of 25 years of Street Fighter and Mega Man, Capcom will release an all-new crossover 8-bit Mega Man game on the PC December 17, Street Fighter X Mega Man. Street Fighter X Mega Man was announced during the 25th Anniversary finals today and pits the blue bomber up against eight popular Street Fighter characters like Blanka, Ryu, Chun Li, Rose, Dhalsim and Rolento.
Mega Man will have access to eight new weapons in this new adventure, a few of which you can see in the trailer above – our favorite is the holographic panels which Mega Man can use to reflect enemy projectiles. Street Fighter X Mega Man will be a free download on the PC when it launches on December 17; you'll be able to download it through Capcom-Unity.
Capcom basically put their name on this fan game that's been in development for some time and are releasing it with their official blessing, so naturally people are calling them out on it, calling it lazy and a transparent attempt at making reparations. Personally, I think that for all the cynicism toward this move, Capcom brought it on themselves. It'll take time and a lot more moves like this for people to accept that Capcom finally realized what tits they've been over the last few years. I also want to know why they singled out this one game to highlight for the anniversary and not the undoubtedly many other fan games that came out this year and even a few years prior, some of which I'm sure are superior to this one.

Meh, looks like your typical fan game crossover bonanza hodge podge.

Which is why I'm puzzled as to why just this game was selected as the one fan game to spearhead the fan game side of the silver anniversary. If at all possible, I would have liked to see Rockman 4 Minus Infinity recognized somehow.

Or better yet, not bother with any fangame nonsense and give us an official game.

That would work too. It would certainly help fend off accusations of apathy a lot faster.

looks cool for a fan game. but still, seems lazy to just get a fan game vs making their own. and it sucks they arent even bothering to port it to xbox or ps3

That actually looks pretty awesome. And since Rockman 4 Minus Infinity was brought up, I just want to say that I think it's far and away the best Mega Man game I've ever played, hack or not.
Exactly. It and Maverick Hunter X are the only games I soldiered through to the end.

I'd play it if I had it. I don't think I'd go out of my way to get it though.

Well, like I said, I cleared my schedule for the day to download the title, some difficulty notwithstanding. I have no doubt that it's every bit the masterpiece I knew it would be...if only it wouldn't lag whenever I tried to use the keyboard in any way, or I had a controller that would work on my laptop. Whatever the case, happy 25th, Mega Man, and you, too, Street Fighter. I only wish I could've celebrated it as pleasantly as I'd hoped.
P. S.

This is fantastic. I love how each stage's theme is a mix of the fighter's theme and an older Mega Man tune (like Dhalsim's being a combination of his stage music and Snake Man's theme).

The game is alright, but the lack of a password system is puzzling to me. I made it to the end but I had to stop playing so now I will have to start from scratch which is annoying. Also it is odd that your weapon power refills every time you die.
Where's Doctor Wiley... Oh no, too late.
