I'm gonna say this now, and it's important, because every time something like this happens, the same things are said and it gets old. Please, both sides of the gun-control debate: there are 27 people dead. No one gives a shit right now about your politics.

Give it 3 fucking days before you start saying what caused or would have prevented this tragedy. 3 days, that's it, then we can duke out politics. For now, let people grieve, and shut the fuck up.

... Sorry but I think this is kind of silly.
Who here needs to grieve? Yeah it sucks, and it's sad. But I don't think we have anyone here who has a personal connection to this, and if we do I'm sorry for your loss, but I don't think hanging out on an internet forum is the best approach to handling this.

If people wanna talk about this, they're gonna. We're pretty much a observational party in this and I don't think anyone here needs three days to grieve. Furthermore, I don't think 3 days is exactly an appropraite time to get over the loss of a child/brother/sister/nephew/neice/etc, 3 weeks yeah sure, 3 months sounds more reasonable, and 3 years seems about right. But 3 days isn't anything.

Now if you're saying we should wait three days to get facts straight, I can agree with you. Everything we have now is loose and we don't know hardly anything other than a guy (or possibly two) killed and injured almost 30 people. 3 days does seem a bit better to gather more facts and go all Captain Hindsight, and figure out prevention steps. What you currently said just feels like backseat-moderating.

I really don't have opinions on this one way or another, it really sucks yeah, and I feel sorry for the people involved, but I think if people have guns they'll shoot each other, and if people don't they'll find another method at hurting each other.

Wow, I'm just now finding this out... This is already the second worst shooting in US history after Virginia Tech. It's really scary how we've been setting new records in the past decade... What is this country coming to?

You know this is what I was saying. And if you had any kind of reading comprehension, you'd see that I was talking specifically about people going nuts and screaming about gun control and the like, which no one wants. Shut up.

I'm sorry, I didn't think paart of the grieving process included police investigation.

I'm aware you meant gun control debates; there's not much else to discuss with shootings other than gun control. I'm saying I don't think you telling them to shut it is going to make a difference. Now if you'd said "Imm gonna wait for the facts before talking about this" it'd have a different effect and wouldn't come across as more backseat-moderating. I'm criticizing your approach more than what you said.
Thought do still think you worded it a bit weird for what you meant. But maybe that's just me

Just stop hijacking the thread to bitch about my single post. It's pretty clear to anyone not retarded that I was talking about the extreme people who like to do the "told you so!" or get riled up and offensive in these events. Just shut up, dude.

I know what you were you were talking about people that go " see, guns just cause problems" or people who go "more guns and the shooter couldn't have killed as many, in fact I'm pretty sure I have an idea what forumers you meant. I'm saying how you worded it, and how you're coming across sucked, and sitting there telling me to shut up and quit hijacking shit just comes across the same way.

Please stop. You're literally ruining this thread. My piece said was a simple request to the most extreme of both sides to not start accusing and yelling like usual. Please, shut up.

This is really sad. All of those dead kids, reportedly between the ages of 5 - 10 years old. Also sad about the teachers.

My prayers go out to the families of all of the victims and to all of the children who had to witness such wanton killing. So many of those young children are probably going to suffer from PTSD, and as someone who is an adult and has to deal with it, I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to have to go through that as a child.

This is incredibly shitty. I can't even fathom it.

The first news story I read on it referred to it as "the deadliest American school shooting in recent memory". This begs two questions:

1. Has there been a worse school shooting in American history?
2. Has there been a worse school shooting anywhere ever?

Because I'm pretty sure there hasn't been. But I could be wrong. I know the two most infamous school shootings, Columbine in 1999 and University of Texas in 1966, were not as deadly.

Virginia Tech just a few years ago. 32 dead, 17 wounded.

As for elsewhere, the shootings in Norway just a few years ago that killed 77 people at a youth summer camp. Not quite a school but still.

I personally do not know anyone involved with the tragedy, however 45+ people at the place that I work live in Newtown. As far as I am aware, none of them had children at the school.

Considering proximity, these types of tragedies are definitely starting to mess with my head.

Petit Family - Home town
Annie Le - City where I work
Newtown - 25 miles

SoldierHawk shared a quote on Facebook that I really liked a lot:
"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world." -Fred Rogers

My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Sad

I was reading about this in the paper today and it said that this was one of the worst.

Someone mentioned the Norway one, apparently there was one in Finland too.

I remember that it said there was one in Alabama but i couldn't remember the date so i had a google to see if i could find it only to find that there was another shooting in Alabama today:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/15/alabama-hospital-shooting-wounded-gunman-killed_n_2307505.html

This elementary school shooting is fucked up though.

Not to say that all the shootings aren't fucked up but what would possess a 20 something year old to go into a school for children and start killing them?

I read that the guys mother or something worked there but still why kill children?

The USA seems to spawn some very disturbed people.

Maybe it was one of those 2012 believers and in his mind he was saving them from the apocalypse.
But the reason doesn't really matter, he was just completely fucking insane. I don't believe hell exists, but now I hope it does.

It is terrible but some of the shit getting said about it is pretty disturbing too. Stuff like what Mike Huckabee said... I just don't know how you can say stuff like that so soon afterwards. If hell exists there is a very special place reserved for him and people like him.

This doesn't make sense, so I'm going to wait for more investigation.

He had two pistols near his body, and a rifle in the trunk, but autopsy says everyone that died did so from rifle fire?

Reports of other guns found at scene, like two or three rifles on top of the two handguns and one rifle in car, so did he wheelbarrow it in?

100 rounds or so fired, he had to reload, did any adults try to tackle him?

Why was he wearing body armor if he was going to kill himself?

Weren't there reports of a second suspect, did anything come of that?

Just doesn't add up yet, we don't know enough at this point...

Also, fucking terrible , my prayers are with the families. Crying

I heard about this shooting yesterday and did not once think this could have been the case, surprisingly.
