I have further computer issues and no one will answer a damn straight question on FB so I thought maybe you guys could be more helpful. So recently when starting up my laptop, half the screen goes dark and then flashes rapidly, usually until the computer finishes loading everything at start up. This problem also arises when opening it back up after it's been sleeping for awhile. Leaving it open at all times seems to have helped initially, but it's doing it when it wakes up regardless. Any thoughts? I don't believe the two are related, but I've also been getting kicked completely off the internet for a few seconds at random intervals and I'm pretty sure it's not my router or service provider's fault.

It's an HP G60 running Vista if that helps.

Sounds like the monitor cable is loose. If your warranty is out, look up how to open it and reseat the cable. As far as your internet connection dropping, more information would be useful. Are you able to connect using a USB wireless modem or on a different network?

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

I am inclined to agree with Excel. Sounds like the cable is troubled.

If you leave the computer on and open, and it goes to sleep, does the same problem happen when it is woken?

When you get kicked off the internet, do you see any changes on the screen? Do any icons in the notification area change?

I've been leaving it open instead of closing it recently, even when turning it off, and that seems to have handled it. I didn't realize a laptop screen had a cable that could come unplugged! The internet thing hasn't happened in a few days now and I'm inclined to chalk it up to the vague cloud of things slowly going wrong with my laptop as it ages. It's four years old at this point and I admit it has problems, I'd just rather not have to buy a new one for as long as I can stretch it.

HP got smart with monitors and added in a detachable cable when they realized how much of a pain in the ass it was to repair a laptop with a broken screen.

Usually you can find a guide or something for your model
