Well, one of those comments was clearly sarcasm. We may never know which one.

Half-Life 2. It's simply got the most likeable, best, deepest characters, the most well-explained story, the most satisfying and awesome firearms to use, most amazing level design, most fun and awesome vehicle handling (better than CTR) and overall just most amazing vehicle portion in any game ever made (airboat ftw) and the best AI. |
Murdar Machene wrote: |
That's why Half-Life 2 has no fucking story and the game is essentially a meaningless, linear series of scripted events that you're forcefully shoved through. |

I see you follow other people's comments very, VERY closely.
For me I'd have to say Destiny of an Emperor on the NES for the nostalgia, however as of late I would pick Zelda: Outlands since I was such a huge fan of the original game when it came out.

I would like to see it remade for 3DS, with crisper sprites and the 3DS 3D effects. The game used SNES's graphic layers to such great effect... seeing that shit in stereoscopic 3D would be off the fucking hook. |
The more I think about my favorite game being restricted to a handheld console, the more I want to break things. I'll try to keep this in the back of my mind when I go for my black belt test next month.

As much as I wanna smack you for dismissing the 3DS as you have, I have to agree. If they are gonna remake a 20+ year old game, let's please take advantage of higher resolutions and the like. I don't care if the game looks radically different, I just wanna be able to sit on my couch and play it on a big screen. I know Syd won't agree because he still has the same kind of TV my grandparents do and doesn't know any difference.

Yeah there are definitely some older games that would be nice to see get some love and get better resolutions now that I actually have an HDTV. I love my 3DS so far, but I probably wouldn't pay to play stuff like FF IV on yet another handheld after having them on the original DS. Can't even use the 3D function on the 3DS anyway since it pretty much gives me an instant headache nearly every time I turn it on, so if that was the only difference I'd just play the DS versions I already have.

Here's my issue:
On the 3DS, FF4 as we know and love it, could exist as a graphically and visually enhanced game that still provides a similar experience as the game we all know and love.
On a console, an FF4 remake would either be:
A) Relegated to a download-only game
B) Altered so incredibly drastically that it simply wouldn't be worth playing anymore
I don't want to see FF4 reimagined with FMV and modernized Final Fantasy gameplay, and modernized Final Fantasy graphics. And that is what they would have to do to justify re-releasing Final Fantasy as a proper retail game on a console without lumping it into some sort of Final Fantasy HD collection. Modernizing FF4 in such a way is a really shitty idea, and if that's what GPF was suggesting, he's a really shitty person for suggesting such a shitty idea. My idea is far superior, and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Sorry to be so aggressive and definitive, but I'm just that right about this.

I agree that I don't want it to resemble any current Final Fantasy game in gameplay mechanics, or whatever else. My suggestion was more like the way they made Rayman look fucking amazing, but it still resembles the first game from the early 90's. It's the same basic game, but just looks /clearer/ and more crisp.
I do /not/ want a FFIV that resembles current Final Fantasy, I just felt the need to repeat that.

I feel like they could do that on the 3DS. I mean, it wouldn't be HD, but the system runs at a high enough resolution and with enough colors that they *should* be able to make a really nice looking 3D game for it. And it would sell better on a handheld. Like it or not, handhelds have been the de facto home of RPGs since the demise of PS2.
Also, Josh, believe it or not, my 360 is currently hooked up to an HDTV. When I get the Wii U though, it will probably be hooked up to my other TV, which is not.

This is a really hard decision, but if I could pick only one, I'd say Bastion. I've only had it a year or so, but it's my most-replayed game. I love the music, the story, the art, the gameplay. It's just so damned good.
Before that, I'd say it was probably Skies of Arcadia or Brothers in Arms 2.

I have an HDTV in my room. The den still has an old TV. The Wii U will be hooked up in the den because there is much more standing/flailing room and some Wii U games will have Wii Remote support, as well as the fact that the system is backwards compatible with Wii.

I do not want the game to look like modern Final Fantasy games. That would piss me off more than anything else. Graphically, I would prefer the Bethesda/Bioware look. Whatever the opposite of anime is. For some reason, I picture that the KOTOR/Dragon Age interface would work well...

Basically though, you said you don't want a Final Fantasy battle system, and you want it to look like KOTOR or Dragon Age. You just want the Final Fantasy IV story, correct? Then go make a mod for Dragon Age or some other nerdy crap, I assume that would be perfect in your eyes.

I just don't like Nomura's art. It's so safe and devoid of characterization There's no character to what he draws. It's just cliche, anime-looking people with wardrobes made out of whatever was left on the tables after an arts and craft fair. FF7 was okay, in that most people were wearing acceptable attire for what they were doing (save for, like any woman), but there's just no visual aspect to any of the other characters like there was most notably in games like FF4, FF6, and FF9.
My one dream for the series is that since we can now make lots of cool arty visuals these days, that we can create an FF game that's done in Yoshitaka Amano's unique visual style. I know he did character design in FF9 (super-awesome job, too), but I want an Okami-style representation of his typical graphic novel-style work. I used to love seeing those swirly drawings of his line Nintendo Power articles and instruction manuals, and I think that it could really sell a new-gen FF game in the current market that appreciates games like Bastion, Journey, and Borderlands for their unique visual styles.

Destiny of an Emperor for the NES
and M.U.L.E. for a multiplayer game

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!
