Yes you read that correctly. You get one choice. Not a list, we get fucking list threads all the time, you get one. None of this well either x or y would be my top. Get that shit out of here. Over time your favorite may change but as of now, what is it? Think it through, you get one. Post a link or video to it or whatever so we can marvel at your masterpiece. P.S. Note this is your favorite, not the best, also state why it's your favorite!
Mine is Crash Team Racing.
The person playing is absolute ass at it.
EDIT: Here's why it's my favorite: (PS. I don't dislike Mario Kart (hell i like Mario Kart) but everyone seems to think it's the pinnacle of kart racing. For that reason i use it to compare to CTR to explain why i love it so much and why to me it is such a great game.
Why this game? Out of all the hundreds of games i've played? Why did i choose this.
1. I have mastered this game. I know every secret route, every character flaw. I have mastered the boosting system, i have exact routes or lines that i can take flawlessly. I am God incarnate at this game. However this is not a really compelling reason.
2. Nostalgia. I played this game for years with my friends. Playing battle mode or races, whatever it's just great fun and i still have great memories of playing this game.
Having gotten the two generic ones out of the way. All i have to say is this game is a masterpiece of the kart racing genre but let me elaborate on that. Let me get this HEATHEN statement of the way now. This game crushes every single Mario Kart game into dust and ejects into space. This game fucking anally ravages Mario Kart. Mario Kart is an utter piece of shit compared to this. Why?
1. This game looks better than Mario Kart and possibly any Mario Kart game even out now. Mario Kart 64 came out in 1997. Crash Team Racing in 1999. So it was two years ahead of it...big woop. CTR looks amazing and MK64 a piece of absolute ass. You can go back and play CTR now and it still looks fucking amazing - so what it's not in HD or anything but it looks really well. It has certainly held up.
2. It controls better than Mario Kart. The control system is fucking genius. It's impossible to describe controls but the game plays perfectly. The boosting system is a fucking godsend. None of this bullshit lolmovetheanaloguestickleftandrighttillblueflames chucklefuck. Fucking skid with R1, when the flames turn black hit L1. That's fucking it. Simplistic to use but hard to master. The rest of the controls are pure gold, most likely because the N64 control stick was a piece of shit.
3. It has a story. Yes it has a MOTHERFUCKING STORY. In Mario Kart you get lolgetgoldineachcup. What do you get in CTR? Well Nitrous Oxide an alien from space wants to turn earth into a giant fucking parking lot. You have to race him across earth to beat him in a racing tournament and cast his green ass back were he came from. You have to collect trophies, CTR tokens and time relics to do this and you don't just get to choose the best racer and cruise through the fucking game. You have to race with one of the 8 standard racers. Oh yeah...did i mention THERE'S FUCKING BOSSES. That's right. A race with a boss racer after completing that world to get a boss key to unlock the next world.
4. Secret characters. It's not just the case of MK were you just complete a cup... and fuck in MK64 there wasn't even secret characters at all! In CTR you gotta collect the CTR tokens and time relics to unlock new tracks and secret characters in story mode. All did i forget to mention to unlock the final secret character. You have to race all the fucking bosses in one fucking cup and shits fucking bananas.
5. Time trial. Hey remember in Mario Kart Wii were you completed time trial to unlock characters? Well guess fucking what. CTR did that a decade before that piece of shit came along. So you unlock a ghost racer. You beat that racer. What's that i hear? YOU THINK YOUR FAST EH, LET SEE IF YOU CAN BEAT OXIDES TIME ON THIS TRACK.
Awh shit son...you just didn't go there. So you unlock the first secret time trial character. Now your up against Oxide and it's fucking hard. It's more difficult than Mario Kart 3 stars on Mirror Mode hard. It's harder than life it fucking self. You will be pushed to your fucking limits. So what if you only unlock a shitty scrapbook at the end. You beat motherfucking Oxide the proclaimed faster racer in the galaxy without using weapons - like in story mode. You are a god of this game.
6. Arcade mode...you thought we were done didn't you? Arcade mode has four cups on three difficulties. Complete a cup and get a star. Get a star on each difficulty for all four cups and unlock a new bitchass battle course. Yes more fucking content.
7. Battle mode - yes you can choose what course. Yes you can choose the "frag limit" and the fucking weapons you can use in the said battle. What's there not to fucking love. You can customise the whole fucking battle and you've completed it. You won. Your opponent is in fucking ruins. What happens? You get a comment on your portion of the screen telling you how you did. You get to laugh in your fucking opponents face as the game calls them a piece of shit and reduces them to rubble. The game praises you though. It knows your the battle king and it tells you so.
So what can i say. This game is a fucking masterpiece. This why in my honest opinion it is the best kart racer of all time and it is my favorite game.

Lunar The Silver Star Story for PS1. Original Sega CD version is just too soggy and dark looking.
I guess I was just at an age where grim and dark shooters and strategy games were alienating me from gaming, and I had played so many RPGs that I was burnt out on them. Then this came along and made me gasp at how gorgeous, bright and beautiful it was, how endearing the characters were and how I really wanted to fix the world in this game.
It had that lost innocence feeling as well as making me feel like a kid again, which is what I firmly think gaming should be about in general. I'm not even a big fan of anime, japanese culture, etc.. but this game stands out as my favorite game of all time.
That battle system was far more fun than any Final Fantasy game, and still is in my opinion.
Did I mention that it was gorgeous? It is.
It came with the game disc, a making of movie, leather booklet and a cloth map. Thus ends my long obsessive post about my favorite game.

Mega Man 3 on Nes.
It is probably both the first game I ever played and the first game I ever beat. I have played it through over 100 times and I love it every time. It has fantastic music and perfect control as far as I am concerned. I know with certainty other games are better than it, but none of them mean more to me than this game. From watching my siblings play it as a child too intimidated to try it myself, to being able to beat bosses with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back, no game has shaped my life as a gamer more than this one.
Where's Doctor Wiley... Oh no, too late.

I guess if I had to absolutely pick one, it'd be Silent Hill 3. It wasn't my first survival horror game (I got it when I was thirteen) but it was the first game I've played that:
-made me realize that survival horror was my favorite game genre
-exposed me to the Silent Hill series
-truly scared me
-contained psychological symbolism and themes
The Silent Hill series is what inspired me to major in psychology (which I'm currently reconsidering, but still), so it's had an impact on me in more ways than one.
Picking between Silent Hill 2 and 3 is really hard, as it feels like an injustice to the other if I only pick one, but Silent Hill 3 edges out slightly due to it being my first Silent Hill game.
And Josh, I remember seeing that game advertised in magazines when I was a kid and wanting it because I thought the blue-haired chick on the cover looked hot, but my parents said it was too expensive.

The original Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Played the hell out of it when I was a kid. Only got around to beating it when I was a teen.(could say the same about the NES games that I have)

Crash Team Racing is a phenomenal choice, Alow. Mario Kart is pure garbage.
Josh's pick almost makes me want to pick Lunar 2.
As for mine? This is a serious matter that I must thoroughly ponder.

Let me set you straight, boy. CTR was made by Naughty Dog, an AMERICAN company. Mario Kart is made in Japan. I bought CTR but never have I bought a single Mario Kart game. I love America, I support jobs in America so I buy products made in America. You support empirialism and outsourcing American jobs with your love of Mario Kart.

Golden Sun: The Lost Age. The world is so rich and epic in size. I think Golden Sun was my first real RPG, and it left a lasting mark.

Naughty Dog didn't build that. Your tax dollars paid for all the roads to their studios, the cost of keeping said roads free of banana peels, and the public school education that taught them about bandicoots, and the research that led to CD-ROM based technology.
Also, if I've learned anything from Karate Kid, The Last Samurai, Kung Fu, Kill Bill, and Shaq Fu, it's that the greatest practitioners of the mystic Oriental arts are actual Americans. Being that Nintendo is the greatest practitioner of the mystic Oriental art of video gamery, it must be that they themselves are Americans.

That's an easy answer, a sequel (to a sequel?) that actually built apon a great game and improved everything, more mechs more missions improved story mode, and actual economy! I love this game and still play it every few years. Only problem is it looks pretty dated, and it's kind of a buggy bastard when you run it on modern operating systems.

Half-Life 2. It's simply got the most likeable, best, deepest characters, the most well-explained story, the most satisfying and awesome firearms to use, most amazing level design, most fun and awesome vehicle handling (better than CTR) and overall just most amazing vehicle portion in any game ever made (airboat ftw) and the best AI.

For me, FFIV.
Back when I was 12, I rented this game with my best friend and played up to the point where Cecil becomes a Paladin. I was convinced that we were almost done with the game. So wrong. So very wrong.
I still wish that this game would be remade for a modern console with updated graphics. The DS remake sucked so badly.

Chrono Trigger. Easily.
I am actually shocked by this. As a robot that holds actual gaming world records, I would have bet the farm on your favorite game being one that requires skill. Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games of all time, no question about it, but I just didn't figure you to choose it.
I think the robot is learning... we should probably pull the plug before it adapts into our society and begins to procreate with our women. Haven't we learned anything from The Matrix, Terminator and Battlestar Galactica?

Civ II. I've spent a lot of time on a lot of games but that one is still the one I can always go back to and play at any time.

I would like to see it remade for 3DS, with crisper sprites and the 3DS 3D effects. The game used SNES's graphic layers to such great effect... seeing that shit in stereoscopic 3D would be off the fucking hook.
