Sony Ericsson has filed a patent for a PSP phone that combines a phone with all the awesome features of a PSP: a camera, TV/Video and, of course, gaming capability.
Although this is just an initial patent and the design is still sort of rudimentary, could this be Sony's shot at competing with the iPhone?
Unlike the iPhone, the PSP phone is very much gaming centric with the 180 degree rotating screen which will allow users to play games with both thumbs as they would on their PSP. Plus, the screen also rotates to just 90 degrees.
Another advantage to the PSP phone is that it can utilize the same games as the PSP, so consumers won't have to invest in new games and Sony won't have to pay to produce them. Seems like everyone's a winner here!

A.) When I figure out the logistics of making it a projectile launching device. i just gotta figure out how to build up enough potential energy that when I eject the UMD it goes flying fast and hard enough to knock someone out.
B.) Never.

Cool so they're making it into an Ngage, that idea won't fail miserably.

This is actually a semi-competent gaming system that they're turning into a phone, and not a semi-competent phone that they're turning into a gaming system.

I don't care if the new PSP makes toast and coffee, it's completely worthless without a good library of quality games. Something, that it still seriously lacks.

True, but two games does not constitute a library.

Armored Core was okay, as was Spectral Souls (Aside from horrendous load times), along with Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins.
I'm just waiting for Silent Hill: Origins, FF: Tactics, and the Castlevania games coming out.
It's kind of sad. I only own 5 games for the PSP, yet I have about 25 for the DS, and I've had them for around the same period of time.

I just realized something.
Remember how akward the Ngage was as a phone? Well, what if the same thing happens with the PSP?
Man, that would suck.

Even though it doesn't have many games designed for it, you can play NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, and PS1 games on it. I'd call that a pretty good library.

Are those good? I've seen them before but don't really know what they are or what they do. But PSP isn't as bad as people are making it sound, especially with all of the homebrew applications. You can do soooo much with it.

Love it. I can run every system from Neo-Geo era (SNES, SEGA CD) and prior at 60FPS w/ sound. I can also play all SCUMM games. Watch movies in almost any format. MPEG, AVI, DIVX, etc. And, right now, they are working out a fully functional PSX emulator. You want emulation on the go, that's what this thing was built for!
I give it 4.5 outta 5 Dead Hookers.
