im trying to format this microsd card i have, but every time i try to format, i get an error message. "Windows was unable to complete the format"

that happens if i do a quick format or a regular format.

since thats not working i tried deleting the files from the microsd card itself and i get error message 0x8007045D. i googled it and got a bunch of different threads & forums about that message when trying to copy files from one place to another, but nothing about formatting.

i have tried different adapters, but no luck.

is that microsd card just dead/corrupt? or is there any way to fix it?

If you put it into one of those SD card sized adapters try taping the little switch on the side into the unlocked position. Mine like to write lock themselves every time I slide them into the card slot and if they do that it won't let you format, delete files, or add files to it. All of mine have a little piece of scotch tape holding the sliding switch in place because I spent several hours trying to troubleshoot exactly what was wrong with all three of my adapters or my microsd cards before figuring out the culprit.

If the card is not physically locked or firmware locked try the following on Windows Vista or 7.

Open a command prompt
type DISKPART
If it asks you to elevate privileges, say yes.

type LIST DISK
a list of physical disks will appear and you should recognize the card because you should know its smaller size compared to your internal hard drive

type SEL DISK [NUMBER]
the [NUMBER] is the number of the disk that you determined to be the media in the previous LIST DISK step

type CLEAN
type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
type FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
type ASSIGN
type ACTIVE
type exit

close the command prompt if it is still open.

The end.

the card isnt locked (i made sure to check all the adapters) and i will try what you wrote when i return from court later on today.

this didnt work either.

after typing the CLEAN command i got this:

DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
See the System Event Log for more information.

so, im guessing the microSD card is just done for. oh well.

Try putting it into the lock position.
I've got like two microSD adapters that for no good reason only work when they're in the lock position.

also if the card is trashed I'm sorry Sad

You can try one more thing.

Put it into a Mac, format it FAT/32 and see if it starts working again.

i tried w/the LOCK position turned on. didnt work.

"The disk is write protected."

i dont have access to a MAC currently, but i'll look around.
