I could make this a simple one sentence question, but what fun is that. However, I'll post the question awhile.
"Is Perfect Dark still enjoyable or will it feel terribly dated?"
Now, I'm an old school gamer who has been rockin it since 86; so I am aware of how the game played etc. I just am concerned about whether it will actually be fun after playing for 5 minutes. I am interested in buying an N64 just for this game, well and Mario Kart.
Also, I'm sure you can get an emulator for the game; but would you be able to do multiplayer online?
Cheers and Thanks for any feedback.

Perfect Dark, the single player stuff would probably still be fun. The PD multiplayer was never as good as GoldenEye. It was more ambitious, but it was glitchy and some of the weapons were really unbalanced.

I played it fairly recently, thought it was alright. I can't say anything for the voice acting because it was at a friends house party with the volume on mute. I liked that there were computer bots you could play against in multiplayer as practice. No idea why it was rated M though. Didn't the alien guy sound like Grover?

It is still enjoyable, though for me it was really hard to get used to using the controller for an FPS game again. Seemed a lot more difficult to shoot accurately than I remember. The good thing about the multiplayer, and why my brother and I always played it instead of Goldeneye, is that it has the bots some of which are actually decently hard to kill depending on gun choices. We tended to play throwing knives only a lot which is actually really difficult against some of those bots, and also didn't make my brother go into a rage like when I'd camp in a secluded corner with a Farsight and just fuck everything up.

Perfect Dark has been my favorite shooter since it came out, and I have never moved on. My friends deride me for this, but I will never change.

I enjoy Perfect Dark's multiplayer way more than GoldenEye's because of the sheer amount of stupid shit I can do, like Tranquilizer-only fights.
I don't mind the glitchy stuff much because I don't take it very seriously. But if you do, I can see why GoldenEye is more fun.

Perfect Dark has pretty awesome music and good atmosphere. The voice acting is campy and kind of ridiculous at times, but overall the singleplayer is solid. I recommend playing it on an emulator with the mouse+kb control plugins, it fixes the framerate issues the game has and caps it out at 60, with high res textures.

Perfect Dark's multiplayer has aged better than Goldeneye's. Just make sure you have an expansion pack or you won't be able to play the singleplayer.

PD's multiplayer has some unforgivable issues. Whoever decided that getting punched should cause a blur effect ought to be dragged out into the streets and shot. Especially since the blur lasts for a fixed amount of time, and that time doesn't end automatically when you die.
Also, the level design for the PD multiplayer is dreary and generic.

Fun fact: I won a Nintendo 'Ninpro' t-shirt for beating someone else in Perfect Dark at a small tournament at EB Games. (The shirt is white with the Nintendo logo in red and you can't buy it anywhere. You probably will never own or see this shirt.)
At the time I had never played the game before. I was sweatin' bullets cause I was on my last life. But I shot that dude's character dead and won cus I'm a winner. Fuck losing.
I wasn't 17 years or older at the time either.

I love the fist-punch blur! There's nothing funny than repeatedly disarming your unarmed friend before you shoot him to death, or leaving a large cache of proxy-explosion N Bombs in his path. Sure it's awful when you get blurred, but it pails in comparison to the sheer joy of blurring your friends.

I think that's why, at the end of the day, I still preferred the multiplayer in Goldeneye. The levels were just better and plain fun. All the options in PD were better, but fell short overall compared to Goldeneye.
Thinking back, I don't think I ever was able to beat the final level of PD, while I probably beat every level of Goldeneye at every difficulty and got almost all the cheats from the best level times.

Well, usually when you get punched you're kinda dizzy afterwards. And how do you even get punched anyway? It's kinda hard to punch someone before getting killed horribly by almost every other weapon in the game (unless they suck like I do and can't aim), and surprising someone is tough because of the radar. I guess you can with no-radar, but you could also shoot them in the back instead for a fairly easy kill.
Killing people and then throwing a few poisoned knives at their corpse is SO MUCH more effective at absolutely pissing people off after all
