(I bring you excellent news from someone on my other forum)
Most of you probably won't care about such news considering you can already play Street Fighter 3 on a few consoles already.
But to anyone that follows emulation news, it is nothing short of a surprise attack from the MAME authors.
The CPS2 board took a few years of trial and error to finally find a way to emulate it. They didn't actually decrypt the boards, but what they did was to make "bridges" (called XORs) that bypassed the security.
But CPS3 was a whole different animal, the boards were a combo of Carts and CDs and if you tried to mess with them the boards would just DIE. Yeah that's right, they would become useless corps.
Many people have been asking for years (even before CPS2 was even cracked 6 years ago) if someone was actually attempting to break the CPS3 algorithm, but everyone that tried failed horribly.
The MAME authors often said that by the year 2010 is when the CPS3 might/could have been figured out.
But now, thanks to a few fellows that (a few months ago) finally decrypted CPS2, saw that CPS3 had a similar decryption method and after months of work they finally were able to boot the CPS3 BIOS as seen here:
http://haze.mameworld.info/2007/06/09/hmmmmmmmm
Now it will only be a matter of weeks before all the games are playable.
This will be the only way to finally play Warzard/Red Earth released on the short lived CPS3 board.
Screenshots here:
http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/gameinfo/warzard/sshots.html
"The CPS-3 features a very elaborate security mechanism. Games are supplied with a CD, which contains the encrypted game contents, and a security cartridge containing a battery-powered decryption chip and the game BIOS. When the CPS-3 board is first powered on, the contents of the CD are flashed onto a bank of SIMMs. The data is then decrypted via the security cartridge. The security cartridge is extremely sensitive to any sort of tampering, which will result in the decryption key being erased and the cartridge being rendered useless."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPS3
I wouldn't expect you to be exited since CPS3 games (all 6 of them?) weren't anything special, but the fact that CPS3 emulation was deemed IMPOSSIBLE for years and now it's broken is reason to get emotional
Next challenge: NAOMI and Atomiswave
(All I can say is 3 words: STREET FIGHTER 3!(on kaillera)! Murdar, Char, get ready.)

there's somethign you didn't think of bomberman.
with CPS3 cracked it's only a matter of time before characters from those games are ported to mugen. we'll finally get to play as a tessa that isn't SVC styled, and we'll be able to use red earth characters besides those featured in Capcom Fighting Jam.

how will they be higher quality? If the dreamcast was capable of handling SFIII fine, I'd imagine it did okay on the jojo games.

There is a huge difference between CPS3 and Dreamcast. The difference is almost to the extent of Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fingthing on the SNES vs the CPS2 Arcade machine. You will tell a major difference.

....Back on topic....
Last night (♪I couldn't even get an answer...♪)
"More progress have been done, now they managed to boot every rom- but they don't yet recognize their respective CDs. I think it's because the ROM+CD combo isn't emulated yet.
It will only be a matter of weeks before they can finally start the games, then comes the correct graphics emulation.
http://haze.mameworld.info/"
And today:
"Games are running now, now all they have to do is emulate the graphics and sound. Which shouldn't take ver long.
I think that by the 20th of this month MAME should have them playable."
(These guys are haulin' ass. By the end of this week, probably, MAME, then Kawaks, will do this! I'm so happy!!)

MvC2 ran on Sega's NAOMI board.
The Dreamcast had very similar hardware, so the DC port of MvC2 was essentially arcade perfect.

SVC chaos doesn't count as a videogame, even if it had megaman zero and firebrand in it.

I happen to love SVC Chaos.
Also, SVC Chaos, was in fact, Neo Geo based, and is fully playable on current Mame.
SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium, Capcom vs. SNK, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 were all NAOMI based, and not playable...yet.

I have bad memories of SVC chaos due to online play.
it was like street fighter 2 with super moves and giant fireballs. jsut a LITTLE unfair.
I like CVS games more because they had a more flexible system, with all the rolling and parrying and alpha coutners and whatnot.
I'd play either, given the opportunity though. I'm an addict.

I've been playing the arcade versions of SVC Chaos, Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2, Marvel vs Capcom, and X-Men: Children of Atom all week.

Almost entirely because of this thread, I went back to playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2. Hooray for fun games.

Updated news:
"Yeah, everything is emulated now.
All there is to be done is to fix the sprites.
By tomorrow Elsemi would have launched the CPS3 Nebula with playable games."
I would show you the frickin site, but everytime you go there it redirects to google.
