FF7 will be coming to Steam complete with 36 achievements and cloud saving, for the price of $9.99.

SE ought to just come out and remake the goddamn thing. It would make them truckloads of money, and it can't be any worse than the other crap ass titles the series has put out lately.

How is this a new version? Just because it has achievements? lol no. Also, think about it. A full on remake of Final Fantasy 7 would be expensive as balls, far more expensive than it was to produce the original title. Just doing a remaster would be far cheaper, but no one wants the exact same game with slightly polished polygons and backgrounds, all the nerds are screaming for HD REMAKE NOW. They just don't get out expensive it would be.

Also, let's be honest. The company barely resembles it's former self anymore. Frankly, I'd rather them not touch any of the previous games ever again. Let them keep making this bullshit they do now and go out of business and let a reputable company pick up the license in 5 or 6 years. That's of course, never ever gonna happen, I'm just saying...I want it to.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not even excited over Final Fantasy games anymore.

I wish that Spirits Within movie flat out killed Squaresoft because nothing good came from them afterwards anyway.

They already released a buggy-ass PC version with awful music (the version I played). One of the interesting things, though, was that people modded it with improved models and stuff, so I'm wondering what would happen if a decent, proper release was modded. I don't see a reason to snatch it up otherwise, since I have it on my PS3.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I'm one of the ones that would thoroughly enjoy an all out remake. The game itself sold one million copies. If they again sell one million copies across ps3 and/or xbox they stand to make substantial bank. Not to mention the craze that is now add-ons. If they are going to go under/bankrupt I would love for it to be remaking FF7. Just my opinion though. Im one of the few that actually enjoyed XIII and XIII-2. XIV actually looks like a fun timesink personally can't wait.

I've yet to start XIII after you challenged me to platinum it lol.

As for VIII. Meh i wouldn't buy it on Steam. As for remaking it. As already said it would cost a shit ton of money but i have a feeling it's one of those things they will do eventually for a cash in.

Really though i don't really understand HD rereleases and the such. The only HD releases i've bought is for one of two reasons being:

1. If you've never played the games before e.g. Sly Collection in my case.
2. For ease of play. I own MGS2 and 3 but i can't be fucked getting my PS2 out so this serves perfectly.

So in that respect i don't really understand FFVII. These people i imagine have played the game over and over. It's just the fucking same with updated graphics, big woop.

Apparently they're holding off on remaking VII until another one tops it. Which is stupid because IX already has.

I don't know if I agree that IX was better, but that argument is pretty fucking stupid on Square's part.

IX isn't better than VII because it was less popular, which is really all that matters. I'd say IX is better,
but haven't played VII much because I have trouble getting into it (and the graphics are just awful).

Pretty sure the IX fan base is better than the VII fan base anyway Very Happy

Yeah, whatever. It's not like FFVII is Call of Duty, where the playing population is made up of 14 year olds and fratboys. It was the same generation of gamers that saw both games released, so that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I love IX to death, don't get me wrong. I just have some gripes with how the gameplay was handled that I don't for FFVII. Part of this is personal preference, but I like being able to have a degree of character customization, which the materia system allowed for. In IX, every character got pigeonholed into narrow roles and that's just not my cup of tea.

They're both great games. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about.

I like the graphics in VII, that's a huge part of the charm for me.

I fear that if it does come to steam it will be filled with the crap issues that plagued the release of the original PC port. It was terribly done. I love FFVII as much as the next guy but a lot of the great things about FFVII is the retroish aspect of the game. Reliving it as it was originally brought to us is the best way to enjoy any game.

I'd kind of like to see some of the more emotionally compelling scenes in the game rendered in a way that doesn't make all the characters look like painted marshmallows, myself.

Speaking of Final Fantasy remakes, one showed up on Google Play today. Not sure if it's III or VI, though.

If you read it, you'd see it was FFIII that came out in 1990.

I can never tell with the first six or so. They never did correct the numbering issues, did they?

I tried playing the original PC version a few years ago, but I never finished it. Maybe I'll give it another try when the remake comes out.
