Yeah, but it also would have potentially allowed 3DS-as-a-WiiU-controller connectivity.

True, but then that could lead to the same potential problem of people wanting ports of the game instead of just a part of the real thing played on a different screen. The control scheme may not be one-to-one, but the functionality is still mostly there, and history has proven that using portable systems as controllers is just a novelty anyway. Besides, there's also the fact that the WiiU's triggers are analog, unlike the 3DS.

that article also failed to mention the 3DS XL will also have a better battery than the current 3DS battery.

It's better in the sense that it will get the same battery lifetime as the smaller version despite the larger components.

Given the larger size, wouldn't this mean the 3DSXL is incompatible with the Circle Pad Pro?

So, new 3DS with bigger screens (but likely the same screen resolution, meaning lower DPI, ugh), and nothing much else, which is unable to have ambassador games transferred to it. I think I will pass this one for sure.

I will probably buy one because I have large hands and it will make it easier for me to play for longer periods of time. I don't care if I can't transfer my ambassador games as I play mostly newer games for the 3DS anyways.

Where does it say we can't transfer Ambassador games? I've never read that anywhere except from Syd in this thread. Every indication is that everything from your first gen 3DS will transfer over to a 3DSXL, except you'll have to redo passcodes for security reasons.
I like it, and will probably pick one up fairly soon after launch. I also like how Start, Select, and Home are separate buttons this time. That's one very minor annoyance with the original 3DS.
EDIT: http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/nintendo-nintendo-3ds-games-including-ambassador-program-titles-will-transfer-to-3ds-xl-but/

The transfer will carry over Nintendo 3DS settings like Internet Connection info, saved information like Friends Lists and Miis, Nintendo DSiWare titles, everything saved on the SD card, and Nintendo eShop account information, including download history and any balance in your eShop wallet. |
This says you can transfer them, but you won't be able to also keep them on your old 3DS. Seems like an obvious caveat for me since that would mean you could give a 3DS with all your old stuff on it to someone else and they would get all the games for free. I'm sure someone like Satire will have a big problem with this for some fucked up reason.

Eh, regardless of that, still not liking or getting the 3DS XL. I don't see how this would upgrade my 3DS experience. In fact, I think it would downgrade it, what with the blockier graphics. Oh, and apparently it has 1.5 more hours of battery life. Wow, that's a lot*.
*that was sarcasm.

I don't know how you can complain about getting more battery life. Shit I'd take another hour and a half on my DS Lite so I didn't have to sit right next to an outlet all the time waiting for it to be like, "Your fucking battery is dead again! You made it a whole 2 hours this time!" It is actually fairly impressive that they can squeeze another hour and a half out of a battery that size while running a larger screen and playing graphically intensive games. Certainly doing better than any cell phone company is doing with smart phones and battery life.

But this way you'd have a bigger 3DS to mistreat and break. That doesn't entice you?

I just want a bigger third-party battery pack to brag about.

I think I may have put a permanent mark in my top 3DS screen (from the bottom screen) from shaking it for coins in the first two weeks I had it. I didn't notice it until weeks later, but when I play a game in full 3D, there is a noticeable line straight down the screen on the righthand sign. I have tried gently rubbing it away with disc scratch remover and a soft cotton shirt, but no luck.
So this gives me an excuse to buy a new 3DS without feeling like I'm wasting money, because I probably would have bought it anyway; I bought the DSi for no real reason.

Nintendo will fix that under the warranty. They're pretty good about that, actually.
Maybe after transferring over to the XL, send in your original 3DS to get fixed and then sell it.

How long is the warranty? I've had it since March 2011, so unless it's a two year warranty, I'm probably fucked.

Oh right, it is one year, plus 90 more days when registered with Club Nintendo. If you bought it at the end of March you may still have a couple of days.

The launch was March 27, but March, April, and May are all long months. So the 90 days are probably gone. Oh well. I'm sure with a little patience and determination I can make it at least a little better, at which point I'll probably donate it to my sister.

When you have OCD, it's all you notice.
Do you know how horrible it is to constantly expect perfection from an imperfect world? It's awful. You find yourself being very disappointed through most of your waking hours.
