God I'm excited....Waters has finally announced that The Wall is going on tour again!
And they're kicking it off where I live! As soon as tickets go on sale, I'm grabbing front row seats.
I've also read somewhere that Clapton will be on guitar.
This is probably the last time it'll ever be toured again. Can't wait!

Ugh, fuck Clapton. Couldn't he get Gilmour just this one time?

Gilmour is probably so put off by Water's dickishness that he probably wouldn't do it even if he was asked.

Did anything come from when Gilmour and Waters played together at the G8 or whatever that was a few years ago? That was a pretty big deal getting those two to play together, but I had a hard time trying to get info on it and it seemed like the music world glanced over it.

The whole band got together for Live 8 a few years back, and it was a big deal to get them to be on the same stage again.
A few more details have been released - Clapton's not onboard, but a number of musicians who've previously toured with Waters are. The one name that does surprise me is G.E. Smith, the former Saturday Night Live guitarist.

"we call it riding the gravy train." Nuff said on that.
The Wall was amazing, but in the end I prefer Dark Side of The Moon.

I'd love to see Atom Heart Mother live....preferrably after jumping into a time warp and heading back to 1971.
G.E. Smith? That would be sooo lame.

Well my understanding is that Wright's health problems are what ultimately stopped a full-fledged Floyd reunion. Wright and Mason both did a few guest spots on Waters' Dark Side of the Moon tour, though.

The wife and I are actually paying for the in-laws to go see it in concert. They saw the original in California, though, so I'm not sure if they'll be nostalgic or just hate it because they saw the first and it was probably way better. Either way, it's like 300 bucks out of my pocket, so they better fucking pretend.

Never really much cared for The Wall. I prefer Dark Side as well.

So I watched the first show of the tour last night:
- Before the show got underway, while people were taking their seats, there was an old hunchback dressed in beggars clothes, pushing a shopping cart full of junk on the stadium floor (where I was seated), with a big billboard that said 'WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION'. He made his way up and down the aisles with security guards flanking him. I took some pics of the guy, and though I can't be certain, I'm pretty sure that guy was Waters himself.
- Like the original tour, the wall was constructed as the show went on and then destroyed at the end. But the video show (which was elaborate as fuck) was projected ON the wall. This is what Waters was referring to when he mentioned 'utilizing modern technology' for this tour. Oh, and the puppets were there....plus the pig.
- It was just a plain run-through of the album - no additional songs. That's probably the only thing I was disappointed over....was hoping to hear songs from The Wall soundtrack or like from the Berlin show in 1990, perform 'The tide is turning', which IMO was a great way to end off the show.
- I was worried that Waters wouldn't have much voice left (remember his godawful croaking during the Live 8 show?), but he seemed to have little trouble singing, or at least didn't show any signs of struggle. It's the first gig of the tour, so maybe it's TBD as the tour goes on.
- For all you guitar geeks, the lead guitarist (never heard of him, but it's not Snowy White or G.E. Smith) replicated all of Gilmour's solos note for note. Uninspiring.
Overall, it was a great show, but too short.

G. E. Smith, as a veteran session musician, is probably miles ahead of Gilmour when it comes to skill and diversity of styles. Gilmour is mainly a blues guitarist that can add a light atmosphere if needed; I know a ton of people even around here that could easily play anything he does and write better. Gilmour is much more prolific as a producer/engineer than an instrumentalist anyway.

Seeing this 2 weeks from today. Can't wait.
I'm glad the solos are 100% faithful. That's what I'm fucking paying to hear! The drummer on the Dark Side tour made up his own solo for Time and it sucked. You think you know how to drum better than Nick Mason? NO, YOU DON'T. Fuck off and die.

Well guess what, it's the same drummer. Graham Broad has been playing for Waters since Radio KAOS.
He had no solo opportunities though. The 3 guitarists and 2 keyboardists (Jon Carin and Waters' son Harry) got their solo moments.

Dark Side of the Moon all the way, although I can't say I don't like The Wall as well.
I agree with Syd. Fuck that guy. I heard it and the original record. Was NOT impressed with the new version.
