I don't know.
I just sorta had the idea to have everyone list their favorite games, their unknown gems they've played, yet no one else has, or just the best game in general to you. Just start listing them off, or hell. Even just games you think excel in story, or music, or anything. Just list off some damn good games.

I'll start by putting out my favorite game happens to be The Secret of Monkey Island, the original.
favorite multiplayer community in would be Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

You continue it on. Very Happy

Wario Land 3. I never hear anyone talk about it, but it's my favorite platformer ever.

I made quite the list in a short amount of time. I could probably add another 100+ games to this easily if I didn't have a massive fucking headache right now. I know I totally skipped over a few consoles, a lot of PC goodness and arcade favorites. I put the list in a spoiler tag so I don't irritate people with its length.

Good Lesser-Known Games:

Aliens: Infestation (DS)
Shantae (GBC) - Everyone here probably knows this one, but nobody in real life I talk too has ever played it. Sad
Drill Dozer (GBA)
Alien Soldier (Gen)
Blastcorps (N64)
Top Gear Rally (N64) - Not really a "great" unknown. I had fun with it, at least. Mostly with the fully customizable paint jobs Razz
Einhander (PSX) - everyone here probably knows this one, too.
Devil Dice (PSX)
U.N. Squadron (SNES)

Arcade:
Battle Circuit
Alien vs Predator
Mars Matrix
(my favorite shooter)
Armed Police Batrider
Outfoxies
Shock Troopers: Second Squad

Favorites:
Samurai Showdown II (Sooooo many quarters spent on this game Smile)
Super Mario World
Star Fox/Star Fox 64
Super Metroid
Marvel vs Capcom 1 & 2
X-Men vs Street Fighter
King of Fighters 2001
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

...etc. This could be a long list Confused

Favorite PC games:
IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 (+mods)
Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition (+ many, many mods Razz)
TOCA Race Driver 3

I know these are my favorites because they are ALWAYS installed while all the others come and go as needed.

This might be one out of multiple entries. It was hard out of 30 or so years of relevant games to pick only one favorite for each genre, so I tried to get some variation in terms of modernity/sub-genre/etc. These are just a few of my favorite games:

Favorite RPG: Skies of Arcadia
This game was fun for a few major reasons. One, the weird steampunk-ish air pirate world was well-realized and fun to dive into. Two, I loved how most characters were typically optimistic and driven, which created a vast number of memorable, likeable main/supporting characters. Three, it was the first time a game made it fun for me to explore. The discovery system was rewarding both in terms of fleshing out the world, and for rewarding you with money (encouraging more exploration). The battle system is about as basic as it gets, but it's a solid JRPG that sucked me in with a unique, enjoyable style.

Favorite Action game: Metal Slug
I always just liked the first game stylistically more than the others. There were no real gimmicks like zombie-/mummification, and the difficulty was set just right so that it was difficult until you could get used to how to deal with the different combinations of enemies.

Favorite platformer: Super Meat Boy/Psychonauts
I know people will cry foul for not mentioning one of the old classics, but Meat Boy is just a god-damned blast. The developers didn't include a lives system, which forced them to focus solely on the level design to deliver difficulty, which they did really well. The art style, music, and tons of extras also added immeasurably to the enjoyment.

On the other hand, Psychonauts is a game with some dodgy gameplay, but it does so much else right (humor, writing, level design, puzzles, boss battles, etc.) that it's easy to forgive a few moments of "but I landed right on the damned ledge!"

Favorite FPS (god, this list was a lot longer at one point): Painkiller/Brothers in Arms 2/Half Life 2
Painkiller just felt like the modern equivalent of the '90s shooters. Using kick-ass awesome weaponry against legions of cool-looking enemies in gigantic environments was just violent, over-the-top fun.

Meanwhile, Brothers in Arms is one of the few strategy-ish series I like. It sets out some basic rules, and lets you figure out different ways of capitalizing on the mechanics. BiA2 just stands out for having more difficulty, more strategic possibilities, and more extra features than the other two (never played the handhelds). The series also stands out as being one of the only well-written war games, with actual, fleshed-out characters that you hate to see die as it goes on.

Finally, Half Life 2 is just fun. The combat is fun, the characters are all likeable, and everything just feels real and right. I love when games create awesome stories without having to frequently take control or imagination away from the player. Sometimes it's nice to leave a player in the dark, and create some intrigue.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

i like KH myself. i wouldnt say its my favorite game, but its a fun game nonetheless. KH2 was also fun, even if the story went crazy. i bought the 3DS version & the PSP versions but i havent played them yet. i also bought the GBA remake for the PS2. that was fun but i havent played it in a while.

That, Shenmue and Illbleed probably rank as my holy trinity of Dreamcast games. The airship combats in Skies were obscenely fun to run through.

Illbleed was awesome, and I'll put it in my "unknown" pile. I hated it when I first bought it (used, no instruction manual), but read up on it a little and finished a year or two later. It's basically the video game version of Creepshow.

Don't worry, the instruction manual was no help at all! Good thing GameFAQs was around even then.

Favorite obscure games:
NES:
-Magic of Scheherazade - One of my favorite NES RPGs (second only to Ultima: Quest of the Avatar, in fact), it's probably more popular than I think but I never see anyone talking about it. Super-awesome RPG with both turn-based battles and real-time battles, and! It's set in Persia from a few centuries ago.
-Xexyz - Side-scrolling action platformer with some shooting sequences in between, really neat atmosphere and a lot of different weapons.
-Dudes with Attitude - A...um...action game that scrolls both vertically and horizontally, in which you play as disembodied heads that change colors to collect same-color gems.
-Dr. Chaos - Action/adventure with a bunch of horror-themed monsters. Scared the crap out of me as a kid.
-Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Action/RPG with some fighting-game-like sequences. Essentially a medieval Crystalis.

Sega Genesis:
-Jewel Master - An action/platformer that's quite a lot like the original Castlevania, except with customizable weapons. Also, the music is bitchin'.
-Bonanza Bros - Two-player action game that's like Xenophobe except you can move on two planes and is more fun in general. Probably my favorite 2-player Genesis game.
-Light Crusader - Action RPG with a bunch of customizable magic. Absolutely worth the two dollars I paid for this back when Gamestop still sold Sega Genesis games.
-Beavis & Butthead - The only Beavis & Butthead game worth playing, in my opinion. A fun action/adventure game.

SNES:
-Blackthorne - Side-scrolling adventure game like Out of This World and Flashback, with heavy emphasis on shooting, and the protagonist has a mullet.

Game Boy/Game Boy Color
:
-Sword of Hope & Sword of Hope 2: A turn-based RPG whose navigation is like the MacAdventure games on NES (Deja Vu, Uninvited, Shadowgate, etc.) A bit slow-paced, but I had a lot of fun with them as a kid.
-Armorines - Action/adventure game, quite a lot like Zelda except with a futuristic setting.
-Gargoyle's Quest - Are these games rare? I feel like they are. Anyway, a fantastic action/platformer with RPG-esque exploration.

Game Boy Advance
:
-Sigma Star Saga - An awesome shooter/RPG hybrid that's quite a lot like The Guardian Legend on NES, if you've played that one. The puzzles/navigation can get a tad bit confusing, though, which is the reason why I've never actually finished it.
-Scourge: The Hive - Essentially an isometric Metroid, a ton of fun if you're into that kind of thing.

PSone:
-Martian Gothic - My dad got this game for me from Gamestop for three bucks, and I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more. The controls are a bit stiff, but other than that it's a great survival horror game with an interesting story and a lot of head-scratching puzzles.
-One Piece Mansion - A game in which you micromanage different tenants in an apartment building. I've never played anything like it.

PS2:
-Shadow of Destiny - An adventure game involving time travel and trying to correct the past to keep the protagonist from dying in the present. Really cool premise.

I want both of these, but I can't find them cheap anywhere. Sad Aliens hasn't been out very long, though, I don't think, so that's probably why.

The Tenchu series.....or at least the first two games on PS1. After that, while they still managed to be fun, the games always felt rushed and the developers put zero effort into updating the AI. I really wish the series could get its shit together and make a comeback. I mean, it's a ninja stealth-action game.....you can't come up with cooler subject matter than that. Just give us a good game!

I'm also a big fan of the Hitman series.....looking forward to Hitman: Absolution, which will hopefully be out this year. We haven't had a new game since 2006.

Absolutely. Tenchu, especially the first game, was really good. I remember enjoying the PS2 Game too. It had a very cool secret stage were you traveled into the future and fought against some kind of evil corporation. That was awesome.
