Many sources, but here's one: http://kotaku.com/5880579/the-original-everquest-goes-free+to+play-for-its-13th-birthday

If you're feeling a tad sadistic and enjoy very little in the way of questing, starting March you can try it out. Haven't played it in a decade and as many good times as I had there, I won't be going back. It would be nice to kick it old school in gfay one last time though.

I played this in high school nearly ten years ago now. Took me two years almost just to get to max level, I don't think I'll be going back to doing that again. Doubt there are still enough people playing that still remember how to play anyway, wouldn't be much use going back to try to do anything in a group of high level players that don't really recall how to play their character.

Same actually, my ex got me started Razz Nothing can bring back the surprise of starting an inky and being scared as hell in Kithicor or the first time you made it to Lavastorm from the newbie area. It'd be nice to give it a proper goodbye though.

I fibbed a little. I did go back a couple of years ago for a free week and people seem nicer, it was almost completely dead but soloing in City of Mist with a bot for a helper was really fun.

Yeah I went back in 2007 or 2008 for a free week and I have all the expansions up to that point. Just didn't seem as fun because I didn't remember much of anything about playing Cleric and ended up just making a druid that I barely got to level 20 on before the free week was up, plus no one I knew ever showed up during that free week. To be honest though when I played those guys were probably 25 or older and I was only 14 or 15 so they probably have better things to do in their 30's than play a seriously out of date game that requires a huge time commitment to get anything done.

Edit: I'm looking at the site and they still require a 15 buck a month payment to receive full access to the game which is kind of shitty. Even if I went back I lose access to nearly all my good spells because silver rank doesn't allow access to anything but rank one. Oh and no Elves, couldn't even play the character. Yeah no thanks.

I can't see too many people coming back to play a 13 year old game for full price again, maybe if they dropped it to $5 but $15 is extremely steep for such an outdated game. If they really wanted to revive the game it should have been truly free to play with the option to buy access to the progression servers and shit like that. There are so many free to plays on the market that have the same stupid limits that are more up to date, why would anyone choose to put up with EQ?

Well, if you or anyone else wants to say goodbye in style, I'd be down for a naked gnome run to Odus Wink

I agree with that, entirely and it was my exact sentiment. The upgrades made it at least slightly less painful (you can get to PoP and even farther if you're a good solo class with a bot) but it'd take about a month to get to 75 or so, and just not worth it. Another reason I'd just go back to give it a farewell.
