Decided to put the first half hour of the game on Youtube if anyone was undecided on whether or not to pick it up. Might do a full Let's Play for those that like that sort of thing.

It has been top seller on Steam for at least a week now but still too expensive for me to consider buying it. If they drop it to 10 bucks I'll spring for it.

It's pretty fun. Lots of reviews are comparing it to Skyrim for obvious reasons, but to me it feels more like a MMO test bed game (like Torchlight/Borderlands).
It's from Kurt Shilling's studio, a baseball player that liked MMO's so much that he decided to throw a bunch of money at Todd McFarlane and R A Salvatore and this is the result. Unfortunately neither the art or the story really show any benefit from this, but there is a shitload of content and the combat is pretty fun.
The world is huge and varied, but you will get tired of fighting off the same bad guys in every dungeon, and you can tell that some of the content is half baked/unbalanced due to the shear size of the world. Skyrim suffers from the same issues, but feels more polished than this.
The long and the short of it; if you liked Skyrim, you will most likely like this. Its graphics are dated but the combat is more enjoyable.

I am a firm believer that an RPG needs a good name to succeed. It certainly needs a good name to catch my interest. And Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is not a good name.
In particular, Amalur is a really name for a made up place. Amalur is the sound my cat used to make when she would cough up hairballs. You need something more dynamic sounding. Like maybe Kingdoms of Bloodsok, or Kingdoms of Kurschill.

They already are developing an MMO in the same world. Kingdoms of Amalur is the franchise, Reckoning is this title. They announced the MMO before this game even came out
