Alright, I have a friend who is thinking about having a sex offender move in with him, as a roommate. Basically, I was trying to get information for my friend on what he can expect as far as restrictions on how he will have to live, having a sex offender living under his roof. I am terrible at looking this kind of stuff up, I spent a few hours trying, but couldn't find anything about how it affects the non-sex offenders living in the same residence, Stuff such as, would their internet be restricted/taken away/monitored, does it have to be reported to their landlord (my friend rents), and whether or not other people living there will have to be interviewed or sign any paperwork related to living with that person.

The sex offender is a level 2 in Suffolk County, New York. I know they are not allowed to use the internet or live within 1000 feet of a school. Any other info would be helpful.

I just want to help my friend out in case he is making a shitty decision, which I think he might be.

I'll make it real simple: unless the offender is blood, you're right: he's making a really shitty decision.

Nothing good can come from it.

This is really, really outside my area of expertise, but what I do know is that level 2 sex offenders are required to register for life, and are considered "moderately" likely to reoffend. Should the worst happen, and that person does decide to commit a crime, your friend really does not want to even be remotely tied up in that. It's a really ugly, messy situation.

Also, because he's a level 2, you should be able to look up his information. It's public record. Try here.

I'm gonna side with Jack above me on this one. It's probably not something that's wise to get involved with.

Yeah, I definitely am trying to get the point across that he should not let the guy move in. I did show my friend the registry with the info on the guy, which tells us nothing new. I know the house address would be listed and hope that if my friend lets him move in, he informs his landlord of his intentions before the landlord finds out from someone/somewhere else.

1. He won't be able to give out Halloween candy
2. The only way to kill a sex offender is with a stake through the heart.

Yeah this seems like a terrible idea, why would your friend even consider such a thing?

Apparently the guy is an old friend. At one time they were best friends or something and he feels bad that the guy is getting kicked out of his place around the holidays and that the guy is sleeping in his truck when it's freezing outside.

Well, tough luck dude, shouldn't have groped whoever he groped then. Personally, I'd be more worried about him doing it again while living with me or something and my ass getting thrown out and having to sleep in my car than his.

I guess in that case it's more along the lines of, what were the circumstances surrounding his offense? Did he rape someone? Was it a consuentual-yet-statutory-rape kind of situation? I'm not asking you to actually tell us. I guess I'm saying if you feel there's mitigating circumstances around it, that might make it seem like less of a bad idea. I dunno. I still think it's not really smart.

I've had friends(acquaintances really, I have only one friend) try to pull that shit on me. in their cases, they were strung out and down on their luck. You obviously want to help, but that want ends at your front door. In my case, I have a family whose security and safety comes first above all else, in your friend's case probably just looking after himself. Either way, these situations bring with them all kinds of complications, none of them good, and it NEVER ends up being just them crashing for a couple days.

The smart man takes care of himself first, and in this case, it's not allowing himself to get dragged into that world.

As much of a softie as I usually am, I cannot disagree with this. It does depend on the circumstances of the crime, I guess. All I can say is, if it has ANYTHING do to with kids, your friend should run away screaming. I don't care if it's his own mother asking to move in. NO.

It's like being acquaintances with a Hell's Angel. If you hang out with them too much, you WILL get pulled into their world, like it or not. It doesn't work the other way around, and their world is far different from yours, with far different values and expected behavior.

Yeah, I agree with you guys completely on not letting the guy stay. My friend is just one of those people who needs multiple reasons to be able to say no.

I think the fact that the guy was busted for looking at AND distributing child pornography is reason enough. If the guy asked to stay with me I would have told him to buttfuck himself with a chainsaw.

Well, they just tack on the distributing part every time because he probably had more than one image, but yeah he needs to fuck off.

yeah, this is reason enough. to be associated with a chomo is like signing your own death sentence.

if it was statutory from years ago (he was 18, she was 17) then whatever. but child porn is just.... wrong

Also, kick the guy in the balls for me if you see him.

Make sure the sex offender doesn't level up. As a level three sex offender, he'll be able to use Jedi Mind Tricks on people, including your friend. And then he'll MAKE you friend take him in.

Taking the guy in because of pity is really dumb. He could help him find a home or something. Preferably far away.

I am glad to see this forum, which is often fairly liberal, finally embracing some good old conservative thinking. Criminals are completely irredeemable. Once a criminal, always a criminal. And once a criminal is out of jail, it's only a short matter of time before they're back in jail.

If anyone's interested on obtaining the paperwork to become a card-carrying Republican, PM me.

Even the vast majority of liberals agree that sex offenders, particularly those whose offenses involve children, are scumbags.

I hope part of that's sarcasm. I don't have "friendly felon" up there for nothing.

But yes, pedophiles are quite irredeemable. The only cure is death. It's sad, because almost all are victims themselves, but it's the only way to stop the cycle.

To me, because he (I think) didn't actually physically assault anyone, he hasn't crossed that line that makes him pure evil yet.
But I do think a good part of a pedophile's sentence is spent being a pariah of society, so he can fuck off for the next 15-20 years or so.

Also, prisoners cost money. Killing people legally does too. So it can be a good idea to give criminals a minimum quality of life. Criminals aren't exactly people I'd want to back into a corner.
