Why won't this guy go away? He sucks.

His 9-9-9 plan is CRAP. A 9% federal income tax? And people LIKE this guy? JESUS CHRIST. Republicans are supposed to cut taxes, not introduce regressive taxes. And somehow this sexual harassment scandal isn't derailing him. It's irritating.

The Cain Train cannot be derailed. Not even Sir Topham Hatt can stop it now.

He will go away. I'm guessing that he'll sink in the polls once his flavor of the week moment is up. He'll probably hang around until the Iowa Caucus and drop out quietly after coming in second or third.

I think Romney's got this thing in the bag. What that means for the general election is less clear.

Herman Cain made the best campaign ad ever. The following is not a joke at all. It comes off as a spoof, but it's a legit ad he put out about two weeks ago on his website. I fucking love the whole thing.

The random cigarette puff and the constant swing-to-the-left camera action were pretty funny.

Then came the face turn and the creepy smile, which reminded me of this.

I've said some nasty things about Herman Cain before. Being an international studies graduate, I found this to be particularly offensive.

Yeah, I saw them making fun of that campaign ad on every news show like last week or so. He's a flash in the pan and he'll disappear from public view in a few months. I hope I'm right.

Holy shit I've never seen that before now. That was amazing. And by amazing I of course mean embarrassing. The flag at the end, and the music, oh man.

Cain's from my state and I think he's a blithering idiot; Romney's got the best chance at the Republican spot in the election.

That maybe but aren't 99% of politicians blithering idiots?

The guy has no real political experience, he has an insane agenda and these harassment issues are going to mentally break the guy. He had a press conference yesterday to address them but it was just a joke to listen to/watch. Woodzy is right, he'll be gone to obscurity in a few months.

I throw him in the Palin/Trump camp. He doesn't want to be president. This is all part of his book sales/motivational speaking career. The problem is that for the Tea Party, it doesn't matter if you have shitty ideas, as long as you can explain them in one sentence (or in most cases less), and saying "9-9-9," even if it's going to raise federal taxes on most of America is the perfect fit for these goobers. I really don't think he was expecting any of this popularity, and will probably find any reason he can to weasel out of the primaries. The guy just gets under my skin for some reason.

As for the primaries, Romney and Huntsman seem like the most sane out of all of them, and I think Romney will get it. I just wish he would own up to his "good" ideas, whether they appeal to the base or not.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

His temporary rise in the polls is just a function of how poor the GOP field is this election cycle, and how the entire party is trying to find an alternative to Romney, who is basically the republican John Kerry with all his flip-flopping.

Cain's simplistic views aside, I emphasize foreign policy strongly when picking a presidential candidate, and he has absolutely no knowledge of global issues. Aika is right to admonish him for this failing. Hell, I heard on the radio the other day that he didn't even know that China was a nuclear power. CHINA! Good grief...

Also, for you fans of Time & Eric (unlike me) here's a fake Cain ad from Tim Heidecker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF9dr-FItR8& Cain Train!

He might still, once he gets to the general election. Romney is nothing if not inconsistent.

I don't even know who the President of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan is. Wikipedia doesn't even know. Though they are asking if I mean "Uzbeki-beki-bekhi-bekhi-stan-stan" instead.

Someone wanna explain this 9-9-9 thing to someone who has been pretty actively avoiding any politics since about 2009?

I have no idea who this guy is or what he stands for, but that ad was convincing. I thought "Yeah whatever" while the guy was talking. Then he just got all up in my face and calmly smoked a cigarette at me, basically saying "I don't even give a fuck what you think." Where do I sign up?

That guy is dead serous. Also, having that 80 riff really makes his movie hit home.

So crazy the simple mind can be. They will buy/fall for anything.

Essentially he's just putting down that everything will be 9%

A 9% Business Flat Tax, 9% Individual Flat Tax and a 9% National Sales Tax.

The Kicker is that, that's the first "Phase" of the 9-9-9 plan. Phase two is as follows:

Quote:
Phase 2 – The Fair Tax

Amidst a backdrop of the economic renewal created by the 9-9-9 Plan, I will begin the process of educating the American people on the benefits of continuing the next step to the Fair Tax.

Ultimately replaces individual and corporate income taxes
Ends the IRS as we know it and repeals the 16th Amendment

Romney's rivals are slowly imploding, and the chance for anyone to beat him is closing. Perry lost his chance when he started looking like a moron in the debates. Bachmann lost hers because she's batshit-fucking-crazy-pants. Rick Santorum is too, which is why he never got a chance to begin with, although it is also pretty hard to convince anyone to take you seriously as a Presidential candidate when your last campaign was a Senate race you lost by 17 points. Cain's allegations were the least of his problems; he had no campaign structure and even less money to create one, so he never really stood a chance to begin with. Buddy Roehmer's still in, I guess, but even his mother doesn't know who he is.

That leaves what? Huntsman? Huntsman would fuck over the Obama in the general, but the Republicans don't like him because he refuses to pretend that he's a right wing nutjob (even though Romney's no more conservative than he is, he at least makes the effort). Gingrich is probably the only one left who has a window to take on Romney from, but even that's not a very good one. It'll be interesting to see what happens to his numbers, since they've already been rising for a long time.

So yeah...I think a bet against Mitt is a pretty foolish one. And he's probably the Republican's best bet anyway. Once we get to the election, anything goes.

...wow, is that ever a "Fuck the poor" tax scheme. A 9% sales tax on top of the 5-10% most states charge? That's nuts.

And do not get me started on the FairTax...

Before becoming Governor of Massachusetts in 2003, Mitt Romney's last campaign was a 1994 Senate race that he lost by 17%. In fairness though, he was running against Ted Kennedy, the Patron Saint of Alcoholic Blue Collar Morons, so he had no chance of winning. In that case, I suppose 17% was a victory.

Right. Kennedy was sort of a super-incumbent.

Santorum's a loon, regardless.

The 9-9-9 plan is unbelievably flawed and fucks over the vast majority of Americans. They can't find one qualified economist to say it's a good idea.
