The gist of this is that Best Buy wants to sue Newegg for a commercial involving a blue shirted slacker who just reads off the info card when asked his opinion about a PC. BB claims it's a jab at them but they really don't have much of a case:

..."here is Best Buy’s dilemma, as aptly stated by Leslie J. Lott, an attorney in Coral Gables, Fla., and former director of the International Trademark Association: “If the awful customer service that is portrayed in the Newegg commercial is accurate, there’s no parody. So it would be in a good legal position but in a horrible position from a public relations perspective. If, on the other hand, Best Buy’s position is that their customer service is actually excellent, then that strengthens Newegg’s parody defense.”

Sadly it is accurate. Best Buy just won't ever admit that they hire anyone off the street to work Geek Squad, and generally these people have no idea how a computer works other than what Best Buy tells them to tell people. I've never met a Geek Squad agent that knew anything about how to fix a computer that didn't involve installing Norton or installing a bunch of random shit on a hard drive.

By already making a big deal out of it regarding lawsuits Best Buy have already confirmed that their computer squad is shit and they know it.

Newegg really hit the nail on the head with that commercial, but I honestly think that it's going to hurt them in the end, because then they'll get popular, and then the "I dried my computer off in the oven," goobers are going to be posting reviews alongside the "geeks."

I worked at Best Buy for a year, and the management was so unprofessional. They do not know how to cultivate or train their employees. I hope I do not get sued.

I worked there too, I originally actually applied for a Geek Squad position, but ended up in the warehouse. My opinion is that I had too much knowledge of computers to be hired in Geek Squad because I'd built 4-5 computers at that point and kept my family's computers maintained. They don't want anyone that knows anything about actually working on a computer, because they might actually give customers correct information or feel bad about ripping them off.

Kinda like when I bought a Plasma TV 5 years ago. They were trying to sell me this gold plated surge protector, and Monster Cable, for $200, then offered to have it installed for an additional $170+.

I think I know how to install a TV thanks.

I also worked there, I was in Digital Imaging, back when Camcorders were still using VHS tapes, and Digital Cameras were all the way up to 4 MegaPixels!!! It sucked and I quit.

Having worked in the warehouse there, all they will do is toss it in a bin with all your info on it, then send it to the warehouse to wrap the bin in plastic. Then whenever the next truck comes all the bins get shoved on it and sent to the distribution center to be sent back to Amazon or wherever to fix. Basically everything that isn't a computer gets this treatment including the TVs, except they don't get a bin just some plastic wrap which won't protect the screen at all, trust me. The only time computers get sent back is when they can't get them to turn on to fuck them up more.
