So who doesn't give a crap that GTA V was announced!?
Ok no, I do actually care. But seriously, what's everyone's thoughts on what should be in it and where you would like it to go? I only played GTAIV for about half the campaign before I was bored of it, so I'm curious what other fans are looking forward to, since my opinions are probably nothing too special.

I rather have GTA: Cleveland. Oh wait, they don't use real city names. So I guess I rather have GTA: Drew Carey City.

I'm hoping they make a character more like CJ in San Andreas instead of someone thoroughly unlikable like Niko. You can kind of relate to a character like CJ which actually gives you a reason to play the story, because you want him to succeed. Otherwise you can just play one of the older games because all you find yourself doing is beating hookers to death with baseball bats or running people over for a few hours before you turn it off.

There has been plenty of evidence that GTA V was in the works; parody domains, casting calls, and more have pointed to the game being set in Hollywood or the Los Angeles area, an area that was partially tackled by San Andreas, which also featured locations based on Las Vegas and San Francisco.
As has been pointed out several times, the green pattern in the "V" seems to match what's seen on a $5 bill. Some have taken this to mean the game will be set in Washington, DC, which certainly seems like a possibility. |

thats what 1up.com was speculating. personally, it can be set anywhere as long as the game is fun. like the PS2 games were.

I have really no interest in the game itself if they don't really change up the formula, but I take the announcement as an interesting sign of what is to come of the Wii U. If the game is indeed only announced for release on PS360, than we can already guarantee that Nintendo is in trouble with the third-parties again - even though they this time have the technical superior console. Wonder what excuse they will use this time, there is lots to choose from:
-Nintendo is for babies
-Only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo systems
-Nintendo doesn't have internet
-Nintendo userbase don't buy third party games
-Only party and family games sell on Nintendo systems
-Nintendo doesn't have multimedia capabilities
-Nintendo is for soccer moms
-Upad is a gimmick
-Senile Miyamoto isn't in touch with real gamers
So yeah, I have an interest in the game, just not as a "game".

It should be set in a city based on Chicago and you should play as an African American with a white mother and a black father from Kenya.

I think Chicago would be nifty. Also, like everyone above said, I'm really hoping for more personable protagonist this time around. Niko was likeable in some aspects, but he seemed way too hypocritical for me to really about what happened to him. Also, they should bring back all the back all the stuff from San Andreas that they took out of IV: fully customizable clothing, muscle and weight gain, hair & tattoos, basically everything that let you customize the protagonist. And one more thing! One thing I loved about San Andreas was the sheer amount of terrain the game contained; from cities and villages to the countryside, a mountain, the desert, etc. I hated how flat the terrain was in IV (and how there literally wasn't anything other than cityscape).

This would be interesting but if they don't allow you to become a corrupt Chicago politician in the course of the game I'd be disappointed.

more rumors emerge:

Grand Theft Auto V will be officially unveiled in some capacity on November 2 when Rockstar debuts the game's first trailer. For today, we simply have to be content with the knowledge that it exists. Or so we thought.
Kotaku is reporting two potentially juicy details it's heard through various anonymous sources, including the most important of all -- the city it's set in., The game will supposedly star more than one playable character which was already the case with IV if you count the new protagonists introduced in its expansion packs, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
As for the location, it's said to be set in the Los Angeles area, one of the three locations -- along with Las Vegas and San Francisco -- used in San Andreas, where it was known as Los Santos (pictured above).
L.A. makes a lot of sense; Rockstar hasn't shied away from returning to locations used in previous games (as we can easily see from the numerous visits GTA has paid to the New York City-inspired Liberty City) and indications were that Hollywood was somehow involved. Casting calls mentioned a character interested in becoming a Hollywood celebrity, a Beverly Hills party boy, an actor, a publicist for an actress, an FBI agent who works as a consultant for TV show productions, and a Californian divorcee.
Many became convinced today the setting would instead be Washington, DC. That's because the GTA V logo on Rockstar's website features the same pattern seen on a $5 bill, not to mention the material DC would provide for Rockstar.
Many questions should be answered when next week's trailer is released. The location, at the very least, will likely be confirmed. As for who the game stars, it's hard to say; maybe V allows players to play as a criminal and someone from law enforcement allowing us to see things from all angles, Wire-style. |

A Philly or Boston one would be interesting. I liked the blue collar crime theme of Lost and Damned, and it would be interesting to take it on a bigger scale.

If it takes place in Los Angeles, I guarantee they put Motley Crue's "Saints of Los Angeles" on the soundtrack, and possibly even use it in a trailer.

Why does everyone always say GTA has to be in the United States... there are plenty of other places it could be set.

It would be nice to see them go back to a real world city like they did with the London expansion to the first GTA.

yup. Los Santos.
but EVERYONE loves San Andreas. so it makes sense to retread old ground. also, as someone pointed out, the V is green. so it might stand for the Grove St Families, since their colors were green.
or it could be V for Vercetti. who knows?

A few quick thoughts:
--Loosen up the gameplay so it's fun like SA, not stiff and annoying like GTAIV.
--Give us a jet pack that goes more than 2mph
--Make it so the cops don't come after you every time you look at someone sideways. In the earlier games, you could kill like 5 people before they even took notice. In GTAIV they're on you like a fly on shit just because you punched someone in the face.
On Niko as the main character in GTAIV:
I thought he was a good character, but in the wrong game. You were supposed to feel sympathy for him about all he'd been through in his life, but it's hard to feel that way when after a touching cutscene you could run out and slaughter 50 people with no hesitation. Niko could be a good character in a more story-driven style of game, IMO.

I agree with this. Although, I wish there was an option to make CJ wear his pants like a non-retarded person who understands how belts work. And if I want to run around in a tuxedo it shouldn't be locked away until the final missions. STORES DON'T WORK THAT WAY!
I still haven't played IV, but if the cars control the same as all the previous games, then that is what should be fixed first. Maybe have them last longer than a few hits before exploding.
But they really need to drop the whole "invincible enemy" aspect. If I know a mission requires me to kill someone at the end of it, I'm in possession of a rocket launcher, and I don't feel like chasing them through crowded streets (that they barrel through but the smallest piece of litter sends me ricocheting into a wall, or oncoming traffic), I should be able to hop out of my car and explode them up real good. I would do that for the racing missions; it's easy to win when you're the only one left racing. ...and then they made that an auto-fail situation.

I could kind of see, at least in San Andreas, the stores with the good stuff being locked until later. I mean do you really think the store that sells in the 'hood is going to carry nice suits? Most likely not, you need to get into a better part of the city to find stuff like that. Still I always found it lame that you couldn't get to other parts of the city right away. You are telling me that the only way from place A to place B is this one tunnel, and no one saw that as a problem when building the city? Now it is closed and everyone is trapped on one side or the other unable to leave. I also liked in one of them that if you did manage to get past the arbitrary things blocking you from going into these off-limits areas the cops immediately went 5 stars on your ass and raped you with helicopters and assault rifles.
