Smash Brothers franchise got killed by Nintendo. Don't expect anything from it in the future.
They should add K.K. Slider.
edit: By killed I mean that the franchise quality peaked at Melee and now Nintendo is killing (not canceling) the franchise. They've dumbed it down and added tons of useless shit to it. This isn't for the diehards. This isn't for people who want more complexity. Brawl accessible to all. Universe will be the worse. Just forget about the future games. I called Brawl being shit (well my exact words were "a big disappointment") when it was announced as "slow" by demo players at the E3 or w/e convention. Ugh.
I will post a big topic eventually (January) on how Nintendo has nowhere to go with most its franchises but downhill after the greatness of Gamecube.
edit2: I know who develops Smash Bros -- it is Nintendo, however, that has control over the quality of their games. Nintendo supervises the game just like with Retro Studios Metroid Prime to make sure quality is met. If a developer fucks up the game, Nintendo should not release it. Nintendo no longer has quality control with Wii.

Only thing I found was site that announced it was canceled and said in the same post it was a troll. Last thing the designer said on the subject was in September saying until kid icarus is done development won't begin.

Nintendo didn't kill Smash Bros., Sakurai did.
The first two games were developed at HAL, headed by Sakurai. Sakurai left HAL in 2003, because he was tired of doing sequels, but was hired to direct the SSBB project. He was also allowed to pick his own team. Instead of working with HAL, he subcontracted various parts of the game to a variety of studios including Paon, Monolith, and Game Arts. Also, this was a guy who went on record as saying he was bored with sequels. So, of course, he went out of his way to make Brawl "different". Unfortunately, gamers don't generally enjoy sweeping changes to their favorite franchises, ESPECIALLY fighting games.
As for Nintendo, a lot of their franchises have gotten better support on Wii than GCN. Unless you're a huge fan of Mario Party, which is crap.

I never understood the hate for Brawl. It might not be as competitive as Melee, but who the hell plays Smash Bros in a serious way anyways? In my opinion, the point of the game is to have random, hilarious fun with awesome Nintendo-nostalgia, and all the Smash Bros-games have delivered that. With that said, I also preferred the tempo of Melee, but its just no big deal for me. Do what you want with the gameplay Nintendo, but give me more stages and more characters please!

I want:
- Rosalina, Dixie Kong, Ridley, Little Mac, and Zoroark playable.
- An improved adventure mode.
Also, I prefer Brawl to Melee by a mile.

Brawl's story mode is a lot more fun, but you can tell the game wasn't made with as much love and care as Melee.
No point system in battle.
A much lamer Event mode. The co-op Events would have been a nice addition, if they weren't so bland.
Nerfed aerial combat, which ruined Shiek, my favorite character.
Random tripping.
Too many big levels where the camera zooms out so far you can't see what's going on unless you have a 50" screen or bigger.
No separate target challenges for each characters.
Less fun requirements for unlocking the secret trophies.
Too much pointless grinding. Grind Adventure Mode for trophies. Fight bosses over and over to catch them as trophies. Grind for stickers and CDs.
Hell, they didn't even finish the story in Adventure Mode, to the point where they needed to explain it in a FAQ on the fucking website.
Oh, and they fucked up Wario. He's too much Wario Ware and enough Wario World.
The game is sloppy as hell. The only good thing is the large roster.

I must admit, as much as I hate that Eggman is his primary name now and not just some slur Sonic calls him, I do love the E.G.G.M.A.N. song from Sonic Adventure 2.

Nintendo Direct announced that Namco Bandai is co-developing.
New wish list: Soulcalibur-style character editing/creation.

I don't really want Tekken and SC characters in SSB. Honestly, I don't feel like they fit. Pacman would, but I just don't like the idea of cramming other fighting game characters in.

This Namco news is strange. If Nintendo was worried about resources they'd axe the handheld Smash Bros.. It'll sell but only [insert negative word] would want to play Smash on a small screen instead of gathering around a tv.
Yea, Universe will only put in Pac-Man as a playable character. Hopefully, he's not in that wooden robot like he was in Street Fighter X Tekken.

Is it sad that I'm probably going to be more excited about the music that comes out of this than anything else? Say what you will about Brawl; it had a fucking awesome soundtrack.

If we are talking third parties, there is one character I GUARANTEE they will add...
Rayman.
Given all the support that Ubisoft is already showing WiiU (and 3DS for that matter), I just feel like his inclusion might be inevitable.
Also, the aesthetic of the character lends himself well for a fighting game such as Smash Brothers.

Actually, that's kind of exciting to think about. And his abilities will lend themselves well to the cause.
I'm a huge fan of the Golden Sun series, so I at the very least want to see Isaac or Matthew in Universe (with a title like that, it'd be hard not to expect him). Putting him as an assist trophy was just too much of a teaser for me.

I still think they should take the plunge with Mike Tyson and make him playable. He's already going to be playable in WWE '13, so what's the harm in it?

I couldn't care less about Namco characters in this.
I'll take Okami Amaterasu instead. To hell with Ryu, Mega Man, etc.

And besides, if they're going to throw in a SF character, I think the choice is pretty clear

Qbert. I think he would be an interesting choice for a character. I am still hoping for Little Mac as a playable.
