This thing looks amazing, I already preordered one and can't wait to play this baby on my VGA Dreamcast. It's amazing that the Dreamcast is capable of outputting such power, the system was really ahead of its time.
Ash is probably just home humping his SNES collection.

I know, it's a shame that so many titles that WERE released were merely PSX titles in higher res. By the end of it's life woulda been a beast

This looks amazing. But they want 34.95 pounds for it, which under today's conversion rate is $55.22 USD, and that's not including shipping. That's a little high, I think. Plus, I feel like this is just an "audition" to attract a deal from XBLA, PSN, Steam, or WiiWare. Since there's already a Dreamcast Collection on Steam and XBLA, those would be the best bet.
How many "last Dreamcast game ever" games do they need to make?

The same could be said about the NES.
Honestly, if I wasn't already committed to Otomedius Excellent and DoDonPachi Resurrection, I'd probably be ordering this as we speak. As it stands now, I'm going to wait it out and see if there's a cross-platform release, which I bet there will be. This is what's known as "Internet Marketing 101". You build up buzz for your game by releasing it on the Dreamcast, and then use that buzz to ink a lucrative deal to bring it to a more viable platform.

I do really love my Dreamcast, but I have to agree for the most part. It was an awesome system if you were an otaku who could forgive quality, or had a good eye for sifting through crap to find classics. While we did get quite a few fun, unique games in the US, the rest were either not released in the US, overrated b-movie games, poorly-converted arcade games, or weird Japanese games with shitty controls. The worst is that people blame the Dreamcast's demise on idiot American gamers who cannot appreciate the wisdom-filled game design techniques of glorious Nippon. The Dreamcast died due to multiple bad business/hardware/software decisions by SEGA, and its marketing. I love my copies of Skies of Arcadia, House of the Dead 2, Soul Calibur, and Bangai-O, but I'm not hung up on what could have been.
And either the system sold better than I thought, or Syd called it and this game is Arcade/Network bait for shmup fans.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

To be fair, the Dreamcast is huge on the secondary market. Due to its low secondhand price and lack of piracy controls, it remains a popular console choice for poor college students everywhere.
Dreamcast's demise was based, as far as I can tell, on Sega's longterm financial situation. When Sega announced the discontinuation of the Dreamcast, it came on the heels of an announcement that they were going to be in the black for a fiscal year for the first time in several years. Sega ultimately decided that they had two options: they could either fight to grow their brand, or they could decide that their then-current financial success was not sustainable and leave the console game. Given their previous string of flops (Sega CD, 32X, Saturn), it was not necessarily the wrong decision. A disappointing one, perhaps, but not wrong.
In many ways, Sega was the WCW of the video game industry. The perpetual #2 who briefly took the top spot by making some bold moves, then eventually fell victim to in-fighting, excess, and mismanagement. The only difference is that Sega didn't end being purchased by their former archrival. Maybe someday!

I'm not against it, it's just that every time I hear anyone claim that a game like this is "likely the last Dreamcast that will ever be released," for some reason I believe it. I don't have a hard time believing that NES games will never stop coming out, but for some reason I can't say the same of the Dreamcast.

Well, I suppose discs are easier to produce, so you're probably right. Does the PS2 suffer from this phenomenon as well?
wow, that does look amazing. now to get a dreamcast

Soul Caliber alone... I got the demo on a demo collection disc that came with the my Dreamcast and I still find that game eye boggling... I remember asking myself, why don't ALL DC titles look this good, then I realized most DC titles were PSX titles... It's like MS. Pac-Man on the Sega Geneesis, sure it looks good and sounds perfect,.. but your just a FEW years too late... the DC pn the otherhand was just too early... all it could do was play PSX titles in HiRes, then it died... but playing RE2 on nightmare difficulty makes it worth the $75 i paid for it, even if I can't skip cutscenes.

I have not heard one person mention a "last" game. There has been an indie release for the Dreamcast every year that I can recall. As for the price, I look at it like buying from a local grocer rather than Wal-Mart; I enjoy giving my money for quality made products rather than the typical Marvel Vs Modern Warfare Elite Condom-Head Edition games.
This is not some fly-by night company looking for an audition for Xbox Live, they have been producing games for the Dreamcast specifically since 2005 and have already had games published for both WiiWare and Live (Rush Rush Rally Racing and Solar Struggle). And guess what? If you are not into Shooters and Fighters the Dreamcast is overrated, but then again so is your choice in games.

The thing is, I'm really into shooters. And I really want to play this. It's just that the 360 is currently my shoot 'em up system of choice, and I'd really like to have it on that. Cuz, you know, achievements and leaderboards are always nice. Not that I'd ever make the leaderboard, but still.
I understand what you're saying with the green grocer analogy, but it's not really a good analogy when it comes to indie games. Indie games, as a whole, are more like moonshine than locally grown produce. Sure, some of them are more like microbrews, but most are not. Would you pay $55 for Angry Birds? I would hope not. And the current market dictates that you do not have to.
Plus, they have to know their audience. Their game is being marketed through the internet to an internet community of retrogamers who like the Dreamcast due to its ability to run homebrews and pirated games with ease. Asking them for $55 USD is like asking a homeless guy if he can break a $5 bill, it's just not gonna happen. Instead, the game will probably be heavily pirated. You've got to have an asking price that will make people want to buy it, instead of punishing the people who do buy it by asking them to offset the cost of piracy. And that asking price is somewhere in the $20-30 range. Not to mention, there are probably dozens of games like this on Steam for $10 or less.
I see what you are saying Syd, but Indie games designed for a system that has been dead for almost a decade are not a dime a dozen. They may seem overpriced but then again they do hold value well. A quick look at Ebay's completed listings show's one of their previous titles still fetching over $60. Also, you will have the actual media in hand, to sell if you wish. Good luck to you selling all of those Wii Ware titles and Live games when you no longer want them.

Yeah, but all of those Wii Ware and Live games are a part of an unspoken deal, wherein you pay $5-$10 for a game, and in return it's usually a simple game without a physical copy. It's different than being charged $50+ for a similar game on a dead, easily-piratable system.

I wonder if my Dreamcast is still thinking and if so, what has it been thinking about for the last ten years?

Who else thinks that yet another Dreamcast game will be released on 12/12/12?

Floigan Brothers 2. Then Yellowstone explodes.

And a cartridge costs way more to produce than disc.
Hey, if your money is better spent on Battle Kid so be it. Maybe I have a little leniency to the price as the Dreamcast is my second favorite system. Living in Japan, getting into the Shmup scene back in 2000, this may be why 60 bucks is not that big a deal to me. Still, you have to admit that giant head looks pretty awesome.
