Next to video games, I think some of the best musical work is being done in films. The usual people here are probably John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Danny Elfman. Immediate Music and E.S. Posthumus are also famous for their movie instrumentals.

I don't know if they have been mentioned yet(I don't have time to watch all these videos or post any of my own)but Henry Mancini,Basil Poledouris and Ennio Morricone are my favorite film composers.
