Ah, I stand corrected. My apologies. I watched them and didn't even notice.

At least they don't have all the added BS :/

No, that's a fact--I own them too for the same reason. But it still pisses me off he's not giving the originals the same respect.

You know what's odd to me, what is it about SW that makes him feel the need to violate it like this? I mean, he's not going back and improving the effects in Raiders. What is it about SW specifically that put a bug up his butt?

Still around? Good. It seems Georgie's sorts shot himself in the foot here as he previously wrote a speech about how altering movies and cultural heritage. The **s are responses/remarks I've found.

"People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society."
** He's the copyright holder, they're his movies, but I'd have a hard time believing that "profit" and "an exercise of power" are alien concepts to LucasFilm.

"Tommorrow, more advanced technology will be able to replace actors with "fresher faces," or alter dialogue and change the movement of the actor's lips to match. It will soon be possible to create a new "original" negative with whatever changes or alterations the copyright holder of the moment desires. The copyright holders, so far, have not been completely diligent in preserving the original negatives of films they control."
** This is from the guy who can't seem to find the original negatives of Episode IV and who replaced Sebastian Shaw's Jedi-ghost with Hayden Christensen's.

"In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten."
** I'll be right back; I have to go buy the unaltered original trilogy from Best Buy.

"The public's interest is ultimately dominant over all other interests."
** Who shot who first?

"And the proof of that is that even a copyright law only permits the creators and their estate a limited amount of time to enjoy the economic fruits of that work."
** George, your adopted kids' cybernetic great-grandchildren will somehow still have a death grip on this franchise, we all know it.

The preservation of our cultural heritage may not seem to be as politically sensitive an issue as "when life begins" or "when it should be appropriately terminated," but it is important because it goes to the heart of what sets mankind apart. Creative expression is at the core of our humanness. Art is a distinctly human endeavor. We must have respect for it if we are to have any respect for the human race.

These current defacements are just the beginning. Today, engineers with their computers can add color to black-and-white movies, change the soundtrack, speed up the pace, and add or subtract material to the philosophical tastes of the copyright holder. Tommorrow, more advanced technology will be able to replace actors with "fresher faces," or alter dialogue and change the movement of the actor's lips to match. It will soon be possible to create a new "original" negative with whatever changes or alterations the copyright holder of the moment desires. The copyright holders, so far, have not been completely diligent in preserving the original negatives of films they control. In order to reconstruct old negatives, many archivists have had to go to Eastern bloc countries where American films have been better preserved.

Let's face it: Back then George Lucas was all about the art and being a visionary; today...

As much as I want to grunt hypocrite when I read that speech against the changing of films, they ARE HIS to do what he wants with, I refuse to expend any more emotion or energy over something that is not under my control.

What he's done sucks and is weaksauce, therefore he now sucks and is weaksauce, NEXT!

I will probably buy it. I am not going to preorder it or anything, though. I am sure they will make more than enough of these for me to walk into a store and pick one up when it comes out if I feel like it.

I'm not buying them. I will, however, be watching them all in 3D in theaters starting next year.
