More seriously, from the comments I've read, it doesn't seem to be affecting everyone too seriously, which I'm thankful for. Good luck guys.

Or the people it is affecting can't post on this board because, you know, they have no power or are busy with more pressing matters.

It sure has affected me. I have a fantasy football draft in an hour and I already have calls from three New Yorkers that they have no power so they won't be making the draft. Damn you, Irene.

Flood warnings here from all the rain, we got a phone call advising us to evacuate to higher ground a little while back. May be out til tomorrow, hopefully I'll be back tonight (or at least be in a place that has stable power and internet in the meantime).

Absolutely nothing of note happened in Virginia Beach, except that I don't have school tomorrow.

I hope those "it's just a Category 1" people are among those devastated.

That's the problem, it's like saying, "Oh, it's just a .22 pistol I was shot with". Sure, it's weak for what it is, but it's still a big deal.

Wind was pretty strong here for a while with a lot of rain, but we were still a bit off from the worst of it at least. Power was out for about 18 hours and I had to wait another 30 hours for cable/internet to come back.

Knocked out power here for a while yesterday till last night, and Comcast (TV, Internet, Phone) wasn't back on till this morning, no damage for me but flooding in low lying areas here, and many trees down and damage from their landing places, but no worse here, if not quite as bad here as it was earlier this year with the Tornado, hope everyone is ok

Yeah, same guys who will bitch and demand heads if they weren't told to evacuate and the hurricane wiped them out. What an asshole mayor to be overly cautious about protecting his people.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, so as a public official you may as well err on the side of safety. After Katrina people screamed that they weren't warned enough. People enjoy bitching.

Pretty much. While I think the hype about the storm was overplayed, let's not forget that hurricanes, even Category 1 hurricanes, heck, even tropical storms, can be extremely dangerous. I'd rather see these storms overestimated than underestimated.

And it's not like this storm didn't do any damage. The Hudson did flood, and it did WRECK Vermont and upstate New York. Fernin's area is seeing record flooding.

That's a bummer about Fernin, hope he's okay. As for me... yeah. Still hot, dry out here. Very few earthquakes, too. Now it's just time to wait for Arizona Bay.

I just got power and cable/internet back after it being out for about 35 hours. Lots of trees down on power lines/houses/cars/roads and branches/leaves/sand/etc. all over the place where I am on Eastern Long Island. There was a good bit of flooding around town on Sunday as well, but the waters receded by Monday morning. They are saying some people around the island may have to wait another 5 days before their power gets restored.

As a victim of several hurricanes, yes they are over played. Where I live the difference between a tropical storm and a category 2 is possible entire neighborhoods being destroyed. So the media and public reaction of "just a category 1" is a correct one just perhaps not for the region.

well part of the road system I work on got shut down today due to flooding. first it was just from four stations, then they expanded the eastbound traffic to shut down to seven stations. Meaning that there was no traffic on or off the highway.

So apparently my Comcast issue isn't fully over, not sure what broke but it has been rolling outages every since 3:30 this afternoon at my house, People with FIOS aren't having that trouble in my neighborhood, but the trunk line for a buddies development had a tree fall and crush it, so not such good news there, also several other towns in my area (across the river) are still without power and or partially flooded (areas by the river)
