I thoroughly enjoyed it.
And I love all the character/actor continuity. When Willem Dafoe appeared at the end of Spider-Man 2, my jaw was on the floor. Watching them continue that sort of thing has been delightful.
Kojjiro, you say "the potential Lizardman was introduced." Actually, the same actor plays Dr. Conners in all three movies. They're really drawing him out, and if they finally do one where he becomes the Lizard, it'll be sweet payoff.

Slight correction: He first appeared in Spider-Man 2.
Fun Fact: The IMDB originally had Bruce Campbell credited in the role. How I wish that rumor was true...

Soooooooooooooooo GOOD!

More wisdom from that crazy geeky Freak
Edit [at 0100]: While commenting on the film elsewhere, I said: "I'm surprised how many people are dissing it over length. I know the Russian film "Solaris" is long... so I guess this film wasn't long enough in comparison". I'll totally stand by that. Until whoever it is complaining about length has seen the Russian "Solaris" (or at least fallen asleep watching it, cause I'm not that cruel), I really don't care how they felt about the length. I saw "A.I." start to finish five times, I've seen "The Green Mile" even more times than that, and "Heat" is pretty much the best film Michael Mann has ever made, I likes (sic) me some long movies and hope for more of them. Peace.

Good point about Dr. Conners, Tebor. I forgot, he was only mentioned in the first movie, not shown.
And no, I've never been able to bring myself to watch the Russian version of Solaris. I've heard horror stories, though. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if Spider-Man 3 was even longer.
I just don't understand why there weren't any giant robots:

As a footnote to my little Solaris comment, I actually did bring that up today. Alas, when you're in film school pretty much everyone's tried to watch Solaris. Two people said it wasn't as bad as the Russian odyssey, while only one pitiful soul said it was worse. I will never talk to that kid again
As another footnote, someone asked if there was a line in the film that will be quoted all summer long in the style of "AVENGE ME!!!" Both me and the kid next to me said in unison: "Soooooo good." I really have no idea why that line is becoming such an internet fad.

Double Post Worthy (cause it's so off topic):
A film was recommended to me today called "Snow Cake" starring Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver (you may better know it as "Galaxy Quest 2"). The film is about: Alex Hughes, an ex-convict (who killed the trucker that drove into and killed his son), is on a road trip to Winnipeg to see an old friend. Along the way, he meets the annoying, but vivacious, Vivienne Freeman who manages to bum a ride with him. Just as he begins to warm to this eccentric girl, Alex's vehicle is in a serious automobile accident that kills Vivienne. After his meeting with the police, Alex decides to speak with Vivienne's mother. Upon arrival at her home, Alex discovers that the mother, Linda, is a barely functional autistic who convinces him to stay long to take out the garbage the day after the funeral he agrees to arrange.
After hearing a condensed version of that summary, I said: And people have problems with how Sandman got created...

Any thoughts on Bruce Campbell as Mysterio in a fourth movie?

I hadn't even heard that rumor, but it won't happen for the same reason Campbell wasn't Dr. Conners. Raimi was concerned about people recognizing him from his cameos in the previous movies and it undercutting the character. And even in the Mysterio costume, there's no mistaking that voice.

Yeah, but in Teen Girl Squad that line is overshadowed by "Ugly one!"

But see, Mysterio is a master illusionist. They could claim that Bruce was playing Mysterio in the other three movies as well, disguised as a ring announcer, door man, and... well, you know.

What's the big line from Spider-Man 3? I've seen the movie, but I don't know what it is. If it's considered a spoiler, just PM it to me.

Harry talks to Peter in a restaurant and squashes all his feelings. After Peter leaves, a waitress walks up and asks Harry, "How's the pie?" To which he smiles like he wasn't such a heartless bastard and says, "Soooooooo good".
And Bruce Campbell is the same character in all of them.
Being unable to be paid that night, Campbell quits his job at the NYWL. He eventually finds a job as an usher. He takes his job very seriously, but enjoys making other people suffer so that they feel worse than him. Peter writes up a complaint about him (like hundreds of other people), which gets him fired. Unemployed again, Campbell lays around at home watching TV. He finds a French show and starts to adopt the voice and accent. He finds a new job, but makes a mental note to himself to be "nicer" to the customers. The joke is, he never remembers Peter.

I'll argue and agree with you Jew how bout that.
I liked Sandman he was pretty kickass. That I can agree with. The big thing he turned into at the end...a little much. They could have easily left him out though, and used Harry to piss off Peter by what he had already done. a.k.a stealing Mary Jane...again...and trying to kill him.
Peter throwing the bomb back at Harry...AWESOME...Sandman saying i'm sorry I killed your uncle, it was an accident...then peter saying oh its alright you learned your lesson, now I;m going to be all non comformist and wear this Straight Edge T-Shirt...not so awesome.
I was honestly surprised they didn't add in Dr. Connors as a bad guy as well. Theres no way if they make another Spiderman movie they will use just Dr. Connors they will have to use another villian as well. Most likely they will use some crappy ones like Rhino or the Vulture. When they should be using Carnage, and should have kept Eddie alive so Carnage could come around how he actually did. Now they would have to think of something ridiculous to get Carnage in the picture.
Sorry for ranting so long and sorry for not arguing more. There was a thing on the news here that said 98% of the movie viewers were women. That and Jew is Dum, like a rok, and he smells of Jewish type things like Hanakauh and....and Kwanza. OOOOooooooo. |
well the thing with connors having hte symbiote and makign carnage happened in ultimate spiderman.

Ah, I guess I got confused. When you said "soooo good" before, I assumed you meant the line was "soooo good" in terms of quality, but you meant it literally. I like how the British guy from Crossing Jordan was the skeezy photographer.

I like how you continue to fuel the fiery rumors of your homosexuality by referencing shows like Crossing Jordan.
Other than that, I have nothing to add. Spiderman 3 just wasn't as good as the other ones.

Except, Crossing Jordan was spawned from the minds of Heroes' Tim Kring and Lost's Damon Lindelof. That's a powerhouse right there. A powerhouse of double banging!

As far as the Venom thing goes:
*Spoilers...?*
Unless I'm blind, stupid, or both, didn't Brock turn into a skeleton due to the pumpkin bomb explosion? Also, I don't remember being shown Venom truly defeated, just weakened and shrinking. I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, so I'm not sure if the small amount of Venom remaining could take over Brock's remaining bones and reanimate him or not.
*End Spoilers*
Oh well. As far as I'm concerned Spider-Man 3 wasn't bad, yet wasn't too good either. I'm not a huge fan of superhero movies though, so my rating of "mediocre" probably comes closer to an eight or nine out of ten for others.

I did not see a skeleton. I heard someone else talking about that on Tuesday, which eventually degenerated into how the skeletons of Spider-Man 1 were in fact the worst special effects of the series. I'm in the camp that Brock fused with the symbiote, instead of the reanimating camp; especially when there were no bones in the wide shot.
Oh, I just read this random post about the Lucas' comment.
| Quote: |
| A number thrown out with due consideration, and full awareness that Spider-Man 3 is a flawed movie with deep structural problems that broke its flow as a simple diversion. |
First to all structural critics, you can all shut the hell up. Structure is a made up construction created by writers and analysts that by no means forms a standard. It's just been so repeatedly shoved down our throats that that is what we expect from everything. Independent films are allowed to get away from it, only because of the conditioning the genre has. When it comes to mainstream movies, we whine that they don't follow 3 Act Structure. That's one reason why movies have been going down in grosses recently and why television has been elevating in praise. Structure is great for organizing thoughts, but we really need to find a way to snap out of it, because it is far to limiting in storytelling practices. I'm glad Sam Raimi recognized that the Spider-Man franchise was following a pattern, so he gets away from it with this film. Not only that, but the film feels more original than the last one. Sure, there's some critics who call little things like "go for the heart" repeating the first film, but that's a reoccurring theme of the franchise - repeating structure would be Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.
BTW, someone pointed this out to me:
Evil Dead = Spider-Man (fairly straightforward, some comic bits)
Evil Dead 2 = Spider-Man 2 (Campy)
Army of Darkness = Spider-Man 3 (Slap sticky while retaining a certain quality of seriousness)
