Finally, in her last call - almost an hour after the first - Olga sensed she was on the verge of death.

With the bears having apparently left her to die, she said: 'Mum, it’s not hurting any more. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything, I love you so much.'

Half an hour later, Igor’s brother Andrei arrived with police to find the mother bear still devouring his body.

Badly mauled Olga was also dead.

Holy Fucking Shit.

Completely Insane. How in the hell could you deal with hearing you daughter getting eatten by bears?

Did either the mom or the girl call for actual fucking help? It's not specified in the article.

Also, did she try and get away after the first attack or did she just lie there and hope for the best? I understand that she was probably badly hurt after the first attack, but in a situation like that, you've got to use whatever energy you have left to try and get to safety. I don't know, maybe I've just watched too many Saw movies.

God damn that is insane. However, I do find it a bit funny how she called three times. I wonder if she called anyone else, perhaps a best friend? "Hi Natalya, I am sorry I won't be able to go shopping tomorrow afternoon, I am being eaten by bears right now."

This story is horrific and I wish I hadn't read it. That said, why was the bear and her three cubs killed? They were only doing what comes naturally to them: hunting for food in their own environment. Is this something about not letting the bears tell other bears how delicious human meat is?

This whole situation sucks tremendously, but it's also the risk you run going into their territory. They are wild and feral and they are hungry. Sad

I feel terrible for that mother, though. That's not something anyone should have to hear.

This sounds like an Onion story at first. Holy crap.

But what's with that last line? "Badly mauled Olga was also dead."

Well this was in Russia. In America, the only times bears are usually killed at times like this is when they attack campers in their tents or something. When someone is encroaching on known bear territories and attacked in the US, it's unfortunate that the people died, but the bears aren't hunted and killed because of it. They were at their home. When a bear goes to a campground and kills a kid, it gets the gun.

Well it does say it is the extreme east of Siberia... I imagine any emergency services take a while to get there.

So if you were being eaten by beats and had a serviceable phone, and you know you're not going to survive etc, would you post pics of yourself being eaten?

This is what I'm thinking. Can you imagine just laying there for an hour while slowly dying as bears tear off your flesh? What a way to die...

There's only so much adrenaline can do. Did they say how extensive her injuries were? I'd imagine if both of her legs were broken--or even her arms, or one of her legs--it'd hurt too much or cost too much effort in order to move.
