These films always have a problem of making something old new again. How do you make an interesting movie when everyone knows how it ends and where it's going? You make it character driven.

James Franco really shines here. He was fantastic in this film. The other two characters that stand out are Freida Pinto(I knew I recognized her, she was in Slumdog Millionaire) and John Lithgow. Tom Felton also is in this film and gets a memorable line.

The Apes you feel for too. Caeser, as mentioned in the trailers, is the lead ape here. The build up to uprising makes sense and is well done.

I was worried about the CGI, but it's not so terrible as I imagined it would be. The Human/Ape thing isn't as far fetched either as anyone who has heard, seen pictures/video of the "Humanzee", Oliver, will know.

So perhaps this movie isn't as far away scientifically as we'd like to think. Compelling story, especially since we've known about it since the late 60s. You decide if it's worth watching. I was actually about to flip a coin between this and The Change Up. Maybe I'll see that tomorrow.

I never really saw any of the originals or the previous run of new movies, but feel I understand the concept well enough from all the jokes the Simpsons have done about it over the years.

That being said this looks OK, I'll check it out.
