I'm not flaming anyone. I'm not trying to start an argument.

A legitimate... well somewhat legitimate study was done that says that the average IQ of people who use IE is lower.

I loved this quote:

Leonard Howard wrote:
I just want to make it clear that the report released by my company did not suggest that if you use IE that means you have a low IQ, but what it really says is that if you have a low IQ then there are high chances that you use Internet Explorer.

It kinda makes sense. A person who is interested in it's computer (therefore has at least a little understanding of how to use that computer) will likely change the browser to Firefox or Chrome. A person who uses it now and then will stick to Explorer. I guess you can say that you can't be a total douchebag if you can make use of a computer.

What the results didn't show was the dismal IQ scores of Safari users.

So true. My Grandma still uses IE and I had to use it today to look something up on her computer, but then at 83 I think she uses the computer once every two weeks and the thing is seriously 10 years old at least and slow as fuck, so I can't really blame her for not switching browsers.

If there was a "like" button on that post, I'd click it. Not because I use IE, but because I agree with the reasoning.

This is exactly why I still use dial-up.

What a pointless study, they should utilize their time better, this is like a study that finds pet rock owners are slower than tamagotchi owners! Rolling Eyes

Woah I just noticed I can click and drag words around while typing in chrome, pretty snazzy!

Wait no it's not, I type with two hands leaving the mouse alone. Confused

I don't know about blazing anything, but you are definitely smoking Microsoft so hard and convincingly that you might win an AVN award if you keep it up.

I use IE 7 or 8 at work because it's what they have or Firefox on some of the break computers if they have it installed, I use Chrome at home because I like how simplistic it is, but I see no real fault with either and am starting to think the crusader like fervor that fans of either camp direct at each other is the same kind of crap the console fan boys toss back and forth.

If you weren't purposefully trying to be somewhat of a dick, you wouldn't have titled the thread "Dumb People Use Internet Explorer" as that's not the name of the study. You were being kind of dickish about it. I would argue that people who have simple needs and don't give a shit about tech stuff use IE because they don't know any better. No reason to be mean spirited about it.

You are correct, the people who did the study named their blog article about their study something else:
Quote:
Is Internet Explorer For The Dumb? A New Study Suggests Exactly That.

http://www.aptiquant.com/news/is-internet-explorer-for-the-dumb-a-new-study-suggests-exactly-that/

I posted that source in my original post.

Also, I use IE all the time, just not as my primary browser. I force hundreds of thousands of browser sessions for thousands of people in IE because it is controllable through Group Policy and can be completely locked down. IE has its place and is good at what it does under the correct circumstances.

As for my comments in response to Syd, I was just being stubborn in response to his stubbornness.

If you want a technological breakdown about the browsers, this isn't the best thread for it. It was an interesting news article and is even more interesting because people who take this shit too seriously are threatening to sue the people who made the study.

I stopped using IE when it kept crashing. I went back to it temporarily when some kind of failed install or uninstall made Firefox unusable on my previous laptop.

I just want a working browser.

IE is the accepted campus wide browser at my college Razz I hate it. If they didn't use it IE would be dead and gone on my comp.

Yeah my campus uses Firefox as their primary browser. I completely quit using IE when it was crashing like Lava said. I remember trying to download Firefox after a reformat and IE would freeze up the entire computer for a few minutes before crashing on Vista. Ended up having to borrow someone else's computer to download it so that I could even use the internet. I imagine they eventually fixed it but I avoid using IE at all anymore, if I'm going to reformat I put a Chrome installer on the backup hard drive before I start.

Does that include MobileSafari? (the one on the iPod, iPad and iPhone) It better not, because I use it. (Not that I have a choice when it comes to those devices)

EDIT: I think you wouldn't call the IQ of Safari users 'dismal'. On the study, Safari users are more smart than even Firefox and Chrome.

I have a theory about why Safari and Camino generates such high IQ averages.

The products are expensive consumer products with an extremely high focus on the educational market. In the real world Macs vs PCs are purchased by consumers in a ratio of 9:1, while on college campuses Macs are owned by about 50% of the student population.

That explains why the default Mac browser may be ranked so highly. As far as Camino goes though, it appears that any time a person must make a choice about a browser, rather than accepting the default, the IQ average is higher. If we have already established that the Macs are primarily owned by a higher IQ crowd, then their owners already start ahead of the curve. The ones who choose an alternative browser fall into the next higher average .

This is just me guessing based on the results and knowing about the average demographic of users at colleges vs computer choice.
