I know people are pretty passionate about their usernames.
I came from the Geocities era, their HTML chats, where I could fool around with changing usernames in a tight knit community who could spot me even I tried to take a new name. This made me willing to try usernames to a point I've lost count of how many I've used in my online career.
Some stick around though, and when it comes to forums, you're kinda stuck with what you pick. So you make it good.
Ghandi was NOT the first name I registered on the forums with. I made a typo in my original name and decided rather than trying to fix it(total noob) simply went to another I had used. Ghandi was my #2 choice. It's my name when I play FPS' online and a lot of games that require profiles.
My first username was supposed to be AlmostRambo. Weird Al's persona in UHF.
However, as I think now, I may have picked different names.
Tyler Durden: Everyone knows I love Fight Club.
Walter Neff: He is the Insurance Agent in Double Indemnity. He's cool from the 1930s and a real ladies man. Old Hollywood at it's best. My #1 Film Noir film.
That's all that comes to mind now.
What did you ALMOST register?

I started off with Viktor, then forgot the password. He's a "Main" character from Suikoden and Suikoden II, before CoD MW2 threw him in as cliched Russian.
The next name I was going to go with was Twelve Inches of Fury, only because at the time I wanted to be a porn star.
Finally better thoughts came to me and I came up with Slayer1, Slayer because I enjoyed listening to Slayer while watching Slayers and the one because I thought Slayer would be taken...

Why don't you request a name change for "Slayer" or "SlayerProfessional" then?

I first registered Alexplosion, but I didn't know about the need to post within one month of registering. So a month or two after I registered, I tried to log in, but it didn't let me. So I just registered with a different nickname, Thunderhorse.

I always kind of wanted to register as Tarman and periodically post nothing but BRAAAINS, you know as a reply anytime the word brains or mind or think was used.

I was originally going to be Dr. Spidersquid (my WOW alias) but there were too many docs on the forum at the time.
