They are, actually. They're both the names of asteroids that no one cares about.

I need to keep up on this kind of thing, but then, I'm still bitter about Pluto being demoted. Sort of.
Cool discovery. I really hadn't been paying attention and I thought Pluto was still a single moon plan... urm, dwarf planet.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

So how big is P4? Does it have more surface area than Canada?

It doesn't get a real name because those worthless fucking asslickers at the IAU don't consider it a real planet anymore (which it is) so they don't see any need in giving its new moon a real name. Those inbred morons are going to get a love letter from me. You know what a love letter is? IT'S A BULLET IN THE FUCKING HEAD!
KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! KILL THE IAU! Pluto pulls a forth moon out of its ass and still not a planet. Pluto should crash into Earth that'll show us!

Pluto is what is, it was before we ever noticed it and will be long after we've poisoned ourselves or blown ourselves up, who really cares what a bunch of stuffed shirts think about it.
Does them saying it's not a planet somehow take away from your ability to believe its a planet regardless of their stupid decision?

Actually, yes. I can believe in ideas like "God" or "the inherent necessity of capitalism" or "the indomitable will of man", because they are not infringed upon by elementary school curriculums. I could pass these beliefs on to my offspring without effecting the quality of their education or their student-teacher relationships. If I try and pass on the belief that Pluto is a planet to my offspring, they will be derided and verbally accosted by their teachers. And it will hurt my credulity with my offspring, when I, their father, the be all and end all of authority in their lives, insist that one thing is correct and their teachers insist another thing is correct.
Until the United States federal government issues an official mandate recognizing Pluto as a planet and attaches a purse string to it that cuts public funding to any school that teaches otherwise, I wll not be satisfied.

...at least until they go to college. I went to a fairly conservative school and there were still a few teachers who would constantly argue and deride those first two ideas. I'd hate to see what it's like at an overwhelmingly liberal university.
Also: Pluto is totally a planet. I can't wait for the New Horizons mission to get to Pluto. Maybe they'll find more 'planetoids' like Eris (bigger than Pluto, also has a moon)

Maybe they'll even find the one that will break free of the Kuiper Belt and smash into the Earth bringing global devastation! Yay!

No! It has to be Pluto that crashes into Earth because it is poetic justice!

I heard that there's a service that lets you name unclaimed stars if you can cough up whatever price they ask for. I wonder what the asking price is on P4.

This is assuming that a female would willingly mate with you
Also, Pluto is a planet.
And I wonder how this moon went unnoticed for so long?

Alright, loser moment, but isn't this how humans ended up finding the Relays in Mass Effect?

It sure is, we still need to find all that ancient alien technology stashed on Mars though.
