I have always wanted to try this.
One of my roommates dads does this from time to time and it comes out really well.

I know a few other cooks at work who do it, but I can't say what their system is. It's amazing what you can do with beer if you just put a little love into it.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

You could become a Beer Baron! Just like Homer Simpson!

My brother in law bought me a Make Your Own Beer kit for my birthday (although he probably shouldn't have told me how much it was... he said they were all marked down to a dollar) and I haven't had the chance to use it yet. Seems like a pretty cool idea though. Maybe I'll use it soon.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

Always wanted to try it, would like to make the blackest darkest chocolatiest strongest proof porter / stout I can, like Imperial Russian Stout but stronger.

The only problem is that it takes two weeks to do it when you make it yourself. I don't think I could wait that long. If I want a beer, I want it in two seconds.

That's better time then the ones I was reading about, they took 4-5 weeks to ferment.
Once I get this kit and get it kicked off (probably going to wait about a month to get the money to do it) I'll take pictures and document my experience for you guys under a OPP thread.

Not exactly on topic, but a guy I know brews his own beer. I went to a party last night, and he brought a bottle of vodka that had 5 ghost chilis sitting in it for about 10 weeks. I tried about 1/5 of a shot, and my mouth/esophagus was burning for about 10 minutes afterward.
In all seriousness, I bet he could market the stuff if he put fewer chilis in it. Although I could see a lot of frat boys killing themselves with it (not that there's anything wrong with that).

My step-brother tried this once and it turned out poorly but I don't think he did it right. I've had homemade wine before that was pretty excellent though.
