i saw this thread on the 1up.com forums, so i figured i would bring it up here.
obviously there are lots of sequels out there. and most have disappointed us. the most obvious one i can see is Smash Bros Brawl. or MvC3 to some of us. i remember others whining about Dragon Age 2.

any other sequels you guys hated?

I thought SBB was considered good...?
Hm...good question though. The sequels to Deus Ex have never lived up to the original. SMB 2, while fun, lacked the simple brilliance of the original. (Then 3 blew them all away of course.)

Also, I personally think Majora's Mask can't hold a candle to Ocarina of Time.

Dragon Age 2 was definitely a letdown. It is like they decided they did a good enough job with the first that the second could be absent a story and replay value and no one would notice.
Personally I never cared for Civ 3, it wasn't quite as good as Civ 2 and Civ 4. There was just something about it that made me not want to play it, and I can't recall what it was.

IT'S SPECIAL IN IT'S OWN WAY!
More seriously, I can understand why you would say that. It's not a Zelda-esque game to begin with, although you grow to love it. Have you beaten it yet or...?

 | Gosh, if I did beat it, it was ages ago and I don't remember. I just remember being sad it wasn't OOT. I've replayed OOT many times since then, but never felt the need to boot up MM.
 |
Man... OoT was great on it's own, but the part about Majora's Mask that got me was the unbelievable depth of the characters. It's like reading a very detailed book in game form. I actually teared up a few times with how personal and moving the characters were. I can't say that about any other video game. If that doesn't peak your interest, I don't know what will. |

i agree w/Drew on this. MM is more interesting to me than OoT ever will be. OoT was just Link to the Past in 3D. MM was better written & everything felt more cohesive IMO.

but then again, im also one of the few who think Zelda II is better than Zelda I.

and it should be PIQUE, not peak. not to pick on you, its just a pet peeve of mine when people confuse the two.

oh, and SSBB is a fun game. a lot of us enjoyed it, but a lot of us felt it was a downgrade because of the many changes to the fight mechanics that were made to it.

Master of Orion 3. What the hell happened there? Privateer 2 . Buggiest game ever.
Cliffs of Dover . Unlike it's awesome predecessor, IL-2: Sturmovik, this thing has online activation, install limits, is tied to Steam ( ) and was released in a severely unfinished state...go to hell, Ubisoft!
Combat Flight Simulator 3 . Bad.
Alundra 2 . Original is far superior.
Soul Calibur 3 .
Every Final Fantasy after 6 . I like 7 until they leave Midgar, then it goes downhill. 9 was just okay. 10 was terrible.

The 4th Spyro the Dragon game was one of the most soul-crushing games I've ever played. My wife and I loved the series, right up until then.
Sly Cooper 2 just wasn't as fun.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was really kinda disappointing to me. There was just way too much WTF at the end, though it was enjoyable up until then.

I'm one of seven people who doesn't like SimCity 2000.

 And Final Fantasy XII. Ugh.

GTA IV: Most dislikable main character and stale story of any GTA game
Syphon Filter The Omega Strain: Really pandered to the online aspect, but when the online for the PS2 wasn't that great and connection wasn't that good, it made the game pointless. Plus your character looks like a plastic doll.

Final Fantasy X: two of the redeeming factors for it was the music and the sphere grid, Other then that, Tidus alone kills it...

Counter-Strike Source: While I like the game it's not as good as CS 1.6, mostly because of the dumbed down from a Multi-player tactical team game to a team run and gun.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (for the PS2 at least): The PC version was complete, the port was not.

SimCity Societies: for a sim city game, it just felt wrong to see theme based cities.

Suikoden IV: FUCK THAT SHIP BURN IT DOWN BURN IT DOWN... oh and the voices felt odd. V fixed it but... eh

That's what you say about the spastic boy in the wheelchair.

Final Fantasy X was when Final Fantasy stopped being Final Fantasy, its just that simple. I enjoyed it in a different way though but it wasn't as nearly as intense as Final Fantasy 7 or 8.

DKC 2 and 3. I didn't like that you had to fly through the levels with Dixie. I like my platformer games classic, just jumping and running, thats enough.

Devil May Cry 3. The series just lost its balls there and turned it a hyper animeesque massacre with a bad soundtrack.

I hate that God of War does even have a sequel. Its just a mediocre game hyped into the greek heaven (of shallow gaming).

Every Suikoden in 3D. The games just lost there style and Suikoden had a very good style.

Yeah, i could go on forever probably...

Three was the start and four buried it. Five was a good attempt to bring it back to earth, and Tierkreis was an okay RPG for the starting player, but not a true suikoden game (No Leknaat or Jeane from what I recall damnit!) The Original and Two will always be the best but Five deserves to at least be redeemable.

I find MM more fun to replay than OOT, but Ocarina 3D is cool because there are all these new flourishes to see. But OOT can be tedious once you know what to do.

Every Kingdom Hearts game after the first one. They created their own mythology and fucked it up with it. The game wasn't about a huge ass story nobody cares for!
Every MGS after Sons of Liberty. They just repeated the same over and over again...great job Hideo "Godfather of Videogames" Kojima. Overrated jerk.

Prince of Persia for the PS2/Wii. Why did it spawn that many sequels. Again, mediocre game with fucking nothing special about it. Its, climb up there, beat up that jerk, skip that boring cutscene over and over again.

GTA IV. Fuck this game. Everbody knows why it blows.

i enjoyed Kingdom Hearts 2. the gameplay was tighter and funner, but the story was a total clusterfuck. i started playing Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories for the PS2, but i completely forgot about it, so i dont know how the story is. i never picked up the PSP Kingdom Hearts.

Cripes how could I forget Kingdom Hearts 2. That will teach them to let Kojima write the script.
