Blame the movie companies dude! Netflix has contracts up til 2012 with a majority of the studios it works with. They currently have 180 Mil in contracts and are expected to have to pay almost 2 BILLION for the same contracts.

A price hike of $6 a month for this service is acceptable to me. It's well worth the money, in my opinion.

I see Douche, that sucks for them. And I do agree, that it is still well worth the price.

I'm just going to cancel the DVD part of my subscription and stick to streaming. I almost exclusively stream anyway. I'll use Redbox for anything newer. It'll work out to about the same per month anyway.

Really I think the popularity of the streaming brought this on. More movies are streamed and the studios want more money.

I don't use Netflix because Comcast has a bandwidth cap. If they won that battle, I would be joining. I don't know enough about the streaming catalog to know if it is worth the price, but it sounds to me like redbox and Hulu might do the trick.

What's the deal with Hulu, is it free or a pay service?
Streaming I would say is well worth it for Netflix. Maybe I will cancel my DVD per month, as I only end up with at most 4 movies a month.

Hulu is both pay and free. Depends on what level of service you want.
Google is actually looking to buy it.

Here's hoping they do, and Microsoft doesn't.

Hulu is better for tv shows and red box is better for new releases. The netflix streaming catalog is pretty amazing. And they have older movies that redbox doesn't have. You can see the streaming catalog here.

Yes. $7.99 for streaming only. $15.98 if you want streaming and DVDs.
I like the direction Netflix is going with this. They've wanted to phase out their DVD service for a while and focus on streaming. The sooner they get rid of the overhead for renting out DVDs, the faster they can focus on expanding what's available via streaming.

I believe if they lose dvds they will have to make the streaming $10 to cover the costs of streaming rights.

That'd be fine if it means their streaming catalog grows. I pay $10 right now.
