Casey Anthony Trial Update: Not guilty verdict in killing daughter Caylee

(CBS/WKMG/AP) ORLANDO, Fla. - After 10 hours of deliberation, the jury in the Casey Anthony trial found the Florida mother not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. She was found guilty of four lesser charges of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

Deliberations resumed for a second day Tuesday morning after the jury failed to reach a verdict Monday after 6 hours of deliberating.

The sequestered jury of seven women and five men was chosen from the Tampa Bay area because of exhaustive pretrial media coverage in the Orlando area and have been sequestered in an Orlando hotel. They listened to 33 days of testimony and another two days of closing arguments.

Although I hate the outcome of this case, it's not surprising at all.

Jurors are instructed to find the defendant guilty only if they feel that the prosecution has made its case beyond a reasonable doubt. If the defense is able to provide reasonable doubt, the jury is required to find the defendant not guilty.

Is it likely she did it? Yes. Is it inconceivable that she didn't? No. So unfortunately, she's found not guilty.

I've lost faith in the justice system a long time ago. This isn't all that surprising to me.

Even OJ looked less guilty by comparison. As horrible as this outcome is, I still like to find a positive in every situation. At least this means I still have a chance to tap that.

I'm with Syd here; in all likelihood, she did it. But since we can't prove it beyond a doubt, then there's nothing we can do. I'm sure she'll be hounded by anyone who knows where she is, though. If she's not murdered or something similar in the next few years, I will be very, very surprised.

I wonder if the defense used the Chewbaca defense...

Reason of a doubt yes, but she won't be able to avoid a guilty conscience.

I'm glad our special forces killed Bin Laden, because he probably would have gotten off too.

Guys seriously I know you are upset but by the nature of the justice system if there is a reasonable doubt you go not guilty. There were also in deliberation for several hours it's not as if they went in and said fuck it we got shit to do vote not guilty.

I thought it was sort of rare for a case this big for them to have closing arguments yesterday, a jury deliberate a couple hours and be done with it the next day. Those jurors weren't even taking notes, they had there mind made up early on by hearing that terrible prosecutor ramble on and smirk at the defense attorney.

Seriously. Those of you upset by our justice system would be grateful for it, if you ever found yourself accused of murder.

If only Miles Edgeworth had been the prosecutor.

And now I spend the rest of the night listening to Phoenix Wright music.

It's already been said, but even if someone seems guilty as fuck to you, if you're on the jury and the prosecution does a shitty job making their case then you have to vote not guilty.

Man I'm late to this Sad I've been following this case for a while now and I predicted a NG when the defense rested and they had nothing but circumstantial evidence.

Like both Syd and Optimist said, they're required to find the defendant NG if there's reasonable doubt that someone else did it. I think she probably did it, but with a case built on nothing but circumstantial evidence, the prosecution really had no chance other than to appeal to the jury's emotions. Thus, all the photos of Caylee smiling and then photos of her skull. (Un?)Fortunately, the jury wasn't swayed.

It sucks they couldn't punish her for her crime, but I'm really glad the justice system errs on the side of caution. It goes above and beyond to keep us from convicting innocent people on nothing but circumstantial evidence. I mean, if you were to try to convict me of murder based solely on my web browser history you wouldn't have a problem. I research serial killers for fun. Confused

In a few years all the defense attorneys will probably have died of cancer like OJ, and she will get caught doing something retarded and that little girl will get her justice, (Hopefully :/)
