Some of you may already know what is happening (I have mentioned it on the IRC channel a few times, and on Facebook and Twitter), but for those who don't, basically, my laptop has had an problem where if it is moved or bumped even slightly, it will shut off immediately. I then have to remove the battery and charger and wait 30min-1hr before putting the battery back in.

If I try to turn it on before that, the power light comes on for a moment and then turns off again. If I plug the charger in, the 'plugged in' and charging lights turn on, however pressing the power button makes them both turn off.

I am guessing this is a hardware issue, but it only seems to do this while Windows is running.

If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong, just post them here.

First guess:
- Blown capacitor. If you open it, I bet you have some liquid coming out of the top of one.

What else would you run other than Windows? If the capacitor is running at 20-70% or so you would boot into Windows with no trouble and the problem would gradually build up. Until the capacitor completely released the energy, it would potentially prevent you from booting.

Age of computer?
Brand of computer?
Model of computer?
What surface do you keep the computer on?

I think the computer is around a year old, it's an Acer Aspire 5935. I keep it on a wooden table or desk most of the time.

1 year old computer... any warranty? Where did you buy it?

Does the power brick have any cuts in it?
Does the power connector hook in correctly?
Have you ever dropped it or banged it?

I would be looking for original documentation, receipts etc.

It sounds like a hardware issue to me. Try booting off a CD or USB drive. Then see if the same thing happens when you move the computer. If it does, you have proven it is hardware.
