Just about every movie that's labeled as a "cult classic"...
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Warriors
Evil Dead
They Live
I'm sure there are more that I can't think of right now.
Someone always tells me "You have to watch __________! Its fucking awesome!" So I watch it and its always a mildly entertaining movie that I'll probably never watch again. |
I with you on this to an extent. I think hyping a "just okay" movie up really kills the overall satisfaction you could've had if that person didn't say anything at all.
Naturally, if you ever watch Monty Python with someone who is a huge fan/drama nerd, they feel the need to spoil scenes by telling you what's going to happen next or quoting the living shit out of it. And yes, it was just okay.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is along the same lines, but I loathe this movie so damn much. I've probably seen it 3 or 4 times, which is 2 or 3 times that I didn't choose to, but it was just on and I was with someone else or something.
I've never seen The Warriors, besides a few scenes, which is one of the few cult movies I haven't seen.
Evil Dead is pretty boring. The first one was unintentionally campy, which made it somewhat funny. The second movie, while being basically the same story retold was a bit better, which is one of the few times I'd say that about a movie that was intentionally being campy. And outside of the S-Mart at the very end, I HATED Army of Darkness, absolutely bored the shit out of me. I think if you didn't grow up with this, I can't see how you'd like it.
They Live is the only movie I actually enjoyed that you mentioned. I think a lot of the reasons being, I watched it on a whim, no one was talking to me about it, and I watched it back when I was a lot younger and a lot easier to entertain, unlike the other movies I checked out where I was in my teen's. Sure it's not a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it for what it was.
