I think that's the point that it's a ripoff, since it's based off Eaters of the Dead, which is a pretty good book.

I can't wait to see what he comes up with next week with his "10 Movies I Love That Everyone Else Hates" list as I have a lot of those kinds of movies too including 13th Warrior, Man in the Iron Mask, and Cloverfield.
Thank you so much for these links guys and opening my eyes to the Nostalgia Critic. |
People hate The 13th Warrior?!
I mean, yeah its a blatant Beowulf ripoff, but the movie just kicks ass. |
I don't know about hate, but no one ever talks about it and it didn't do well when it came out which has always angered me because it is indeed a badass, awesomely entertaining movie; one of my all time favorites.

One of my favorite movies is Clifford, despite it being universally panned.

Yeah, but the ripoff part is that Eaters of the Dead is an almost complete ripoff of Beowulf. Beowulf fights Grendel, Bulwiyf fights the Wendol.
Although, wikipedia is telling me that Crichton did it on purpose, so I guess it's not a proper ripoff.

Yeah, I don't think Crichton would be stupid enough to "accidentally" rip off one of the oldest and most well known stories ever.
I know we can all agree that this movie beats the shit out of that Ray Winstone Beowulf movie.

I don't think anyone would suggest that it could have been accidental. However, I wouldn't put it past him to be ballsy and arrogant enough to do so and think nobody would notice.

Fuck yeah. Of course, as a Dane I have a genetic duty to be loyal to all media properties Viking related.
Except for Pathfinder. Bullshit historical revisionism, I say!

Wait, that was an actual movie and not some crappy video game cutscene?
But in all seriousness, the movie is actually not bad, up until the laughably bad Beowulf shows up (see 5 minutes in). I will give ti credit for the fight scene with Grendel having such bad a bad script that it turned into an action scene into pure comedic gold.
"IT SPEEEEKS!"

As do I. I consider most of Adam Sandlers movies as chuckle worthy but he never comes off as more than "frat guy". Jim Carrey, however, has done some fantastic work.

There is no fucking way Adam Sandler is a better dramatic actor than Jim Carrey. He's not even a better comedic actor. If you really think about it, every single thing Adam Sandler does is basically what Jim Carrey has done, but scaled back maybe 60%. Crazy voices? Check. Stupid catchphrases that kids in the 90s repeated endlessly? Check and check. Dramatic turns? Check. They've both done them all, but Carrey usually did them first and better.
What I think the big difference is though, is that Jim Carrey can do a great job just in the semi-serious parts of his comedy films. He can do roles that make you feel sorry for the character. I've never felt sorry for an Adam Sandler character, except maybe The Wedding Singer.
Adam Sandler seems to have just had the wisdom or foresight to choose the more critically successful dramatic roles. I personally thought Punch Drunk Love sucked ass and that The Majestic was fairly touching, pretty much the opposite of what critics thought.
But bottom line? Find me ONE SINGLE FUCKING THING Adam Sandler has done that can even compare to The Truman Show or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Cheap heartstring-pulls taking advantage of the 9/11 sympathy. An easy payday, nothing more.
Best thing about that movie was the trailer's soundtrack.
EDIT: ok, Sandler did get me choked up ONCE. In Click, when he went forward and time and found out his dad was dead. That got to me, but it certainly wasn't because of his acting.

Interesting trivia from Carrey's imdb page:
Chris Farley was originally supposed to star in The Cable Guy. Wow, that would have been a COMPLETELY different movie.
Also, he reportedly insisted that his favorite band, Cannibal Corpse, be featured playing in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Jim gets points for liking Cannibal Corpse and putting them in Ace Ventura, albeit for 15 seconds.
I like Adam's CDs more than his movies.

personally, I find that carey overdoes it often, to the point of being unwatchable sometimes. It actually pains me to see some of the things that he does in certain situations.

Bruce Almighty WAS horrible. Must have been a killer payday, because they sucked Steve Carell into doing the sequel, too.

I have seen the Hollywood movie spider man in this movie there are not only 11 dumbest moments but there are much scenes that are dumbest or unbelievable. When he was drop the net and he was climbing the buildings that scenes are I most like.

Watching that video actually made me appreciate the Spider Man movies more. I thought they were all pretty average but if this guy spent hours making this video and only came up with 3 legit complaints then maybe the movies are better than I originally thought.
A combined 10 seconds of American flag shots, spread over 3 movies, bothered you? Really?
Cheesy dialog in a COMIC BOOK MOVIE bothered you?!?!?!
I guess if he had to dig that deep to find things to complain about then there can't be much to complain about.
