I tried watching it but I don't like the song and watching people act so foolishly under the guise of religion make me angry. People getting pushed and falling over... christ... literally.

Some people have been so horribly brainwashed by their churches and their parents (who grew up in the church, as well), that they will believe anything the church tells them.

Others are so weak in will, they will just flat out believe in anything, just for the sake of having something to believe in.

If I could take a dump, that vaguely looked like the face of Jesus or the Virgin Mary, there would be some people who would believe me to be the next Messiah.

Hmmmm.....

I think I has me, a brilliant new plan for world domination!

It is illegal for relatives, teachers or authority figures to expose any child under the age of 18 to any religious beliefs in a manor that would claim them to be fact.

I figure if people are given a chance to reach an age when they actually have the brains to realize when something sounds completely fucking ridiculous, then it'll take care of this whole religion thing in a couple of generations... and without taking away freedom of religion!

Wow, that Gryphon guy is a genius. I mean, when I was a little kid people told me that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny were real over and over and OBVIOUSLY I still believe that.

Oh wait, no I don't.

It's also funny that he uses the sun being made of "yummy candy" as an example, because children are often told that mankind's second favorite celestial body, the moon, is made of cheese, often of the green variety. So not only is he using the classic Straw Man fallacy to argue his point, he's also using a poor Straw Man at that... you'd be hard-pressed to find a grown adult that still believes the moon is made of cheese.

I may be a bastard, but right off the bat, I'm telling my kid the truth about things like the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and such. Most of it is because I don't like the idea of pushing nonsense onto my own child, plus when I found out those weren't real, I was pissed at my mother. As silly as it is, I don't like being lied to and besides I hate Christmas anyway. Of course, my kid will probably ruin it for the other kids or maybe he won't believe me, but that will work to my advantage later when he's 8-9 and he says, "Dad... you were right. I'm sorry." and I gain some sage points.

When it comes to religion, I'll probably explain it as I think of it. I'll tell him the basics about whatever religion that comes up in context and also, as usual, give my opinion. If my kid became religious, I would be disappointed, but I wouldn't hold it against him as long as he can justify his belief (to some extent). I just don't want my kid to start believing in something like that because he's so desperate for one thing or another. If I want him to establish faith with anybody, I want it to be me, as I am very real and can really help him.

Maybe this thread's name should be changed to reflect the guy's actual name. 'Cause, y'know, Benny Hill is someone else entirely.

I was actually disappointed by that -- "Benny Hill, techno evangelist" would be awesome.
