its crazy right now, the town of Slave Lake, AB lay in ruins now because of a massive wildfire that laid to waste nearly half of the community its actually pretty harsh, one of my close friends is from there and she is absolutely devastated, her parents house was destroyed and a lot of her friends lost their homes too... fortunately nobody was injured, everyone was evacuated in time.
Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

The fire was probably just trying to free the lake.
Seriously, though... this sucks. I have experienced wildfires up close living in Southern California years ago. It is terrifying to look around and see massive flames on three sides of you, plus hear the roar of it and the wood from the forest crackling and exploding from the heat.

Yep, we've had a couple of really, really bad ones down here in SoCal, in 2004 and 2008. (It's one of the things that made me choose National Guard over Reserves, seeing all the Guardsmen out helping.) Fires are awful, awful things, or can be. My condolences and good thoughts to everyone affected.
*waits for news of Kurt Browning setting up a charity event to raise money for the town in three...two...one...*

Isn't he the one that burned his mansion down while trying to dry off his Porsche with a leaf blower?

Slave Lake, what an odd name.
Yeah wildfires suck. My father is a fireman and he tells me of how difficult they are to put out. Especially when the engines cant get near them. He says they often just have to go up hillsides and stamp the fires out with shovels.
